front end making "ping" sound on 2008 TRD sport 4x4

I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem. I'll be backing into a parking spot and every once in awhile I hear a ping sound coming from my front end (It's a 4x4 Trd sport). Some days it can be loud and somedays its barely noticeable. It usually does it while I have the wheel turned. I thought about going into a empty parking lot and driving the hell out of it going backwards. I had a buddy at work say its probably the hub. Any suggestions??? K.C. from Georgia

If its when you hit the brakes its the brake pads moving in the caliper. If not, I have no idea.

Does it sound like "ping" or more like "Ping"?

Any time someone describes a "PING" sound when applying the brakes, you can bet 99.99% of the time it's the brake pads shifting against the cross pins in the front calipers. Completely normal. As your pads wear, you'll hear it more and more. It should happen when you change directions (forward to reverse, or reverse to forward) and hit the brakes for the FIRST time. For instance, when you were going forward the pads were shifted up against the cross pins (pads are on the rear of the rotors). You stop and go into reverse then when you hit the brakes they shift downward (rotor pulls them down against the cross pins that holds them in place). The faster you go and then hit the brakes, the louder they will be. When I stop and back into my driveway at night, I get going pretty fast at times (10 mph?) and then hit the brakes when backing down the driveway. The ping can be heard next door. It's just Toyota's floating pad design. There is a TSB if you don't like to hear them. IIRC, the solution in that TSB is to apply grease to the pins and pads to help hold them in place better and to mask the sound. But who really cares if it's normal?

front end making "ping" sound on 2008 TRD sport 4x4-img_20110404_140447.jpg[ATTACH]

This is the driver side. Im sorry but I dont know exactly what this part is on the front end (4 wheel drive) called but this one had more play than the passenger side. Would this cause it the "ping"?? Any other parts I should check out while Im under there?
