Thats the thing It is stock only mod done to it is a set if NFAB bars and I also bought it for its reliability and dependability but 12 mi to gal on a stock truck says neither of the two I dont have any armor no oversized tires none of that. And yes I did buy it partially on its reputation for good gas milage for a truck its size I wasnt expecting hybrid milage but I also wasnt expecting 87 ford bronco milage out of it either

What is your calculated mpg (miles per gallon)? The method you are using to estimate your fuel consumption is miles per tank, and may not be as accurate or easy to compare as miles per gallon.

You can (if you want more accurate and comparable figures) track the miles that you travel and the gallons of gas that you use to travel those miles. Dividing the mileage by the gallons used results in your MPG (miles per gallon) figure. If this number is low over several tanks of gas, as compared to the mpg rates achieved by others and published by Toyota, you have a complaint. Until then, you might only have bad estimates of your gas consumption.

I don't mean to dispute or discredit your present mileage estimates - I just think there is a more accurate method available to make the determination.

Also: Have you compared your odometer to a GPS reading? A faulty speedometer/odometer can skew your mpg calculations.

21 MPG consistantly....octane makes no difference in fuel economy...dont switch to synthetic if your using real oil...synthetics with loosen up any deposits created by oil..may cause more problems..

I'm in the same boat as you. I'd be lucky to get near 300 miles.
I'm only at 18K miles and I use premium gas and synthetic oil.
Only mod are bigger tires 265/75/16 and a canopy in the back. I avg about 60mph on the highway, so not too fast at all. Plus I don't do those crazy jack rabbit starts at the lights.

I am getting 20 mpg average now that the snow is gone. I drive mostly around town with a little highway now and then. Stock everything.

If you are calculating this correctly and getting 12mpg then something is Seriously wrong.

Next time you fill up, zero the odo, run it until the gas light comes on and then divide miles by gallons. If you are still under 16, then take that mofo to the dealer and have them sort it out.

    My House Usually
Ever since the cold weather started (Ohio), my gas mileage has gone down the shitter and I'm a 4 Banger. I had to switch up to premium to get any sense of something reasonable in MPGs.

I did the same thing..."WTF is up w/ my truck!!!" and I figured if something was truly wrong, my truck would let me know by a light or something.

So...the cold weather, kills your damn gas mileage.

All the proof I need? When we did have a warm week here in Ohio recently, my gas mileage magically improved quite dramatically. You got your truck in Jan, so you have no warm weather to compare it to and your in Indy.

During the cold, cold months, I was damn lucky if my gas needle didn't start to move past the top F dash in under 40 miles....during that warm week, same quality gas, no different driving, more than 55 miles at the same point on the fuel gauge.

It's nuts. I am more pissed off about the cold weather because it kills my MPGs than anything.

    Still love my truck.

I only get 14-16 city and 18-20 highway. I've never seen 18 city even when I had my stock tires and my mpg's have gone down a bit with the beefier Duratracs on there.

false... winter gas is a different mixture of gas that is less efficient.

If you're letting it run down until right when the E light comes on, you're running it down to 4 gals left according to a study done here on TW. With a 21 gallon tank, that means you're using 17 gals. This means you are getting between 13.5 and 15.2 MPG. This is between .8 and 2.5 MPGs under it's rated numbers of 16/20. If you're not waiting until the gas light comes on... you're probably getting about what the truck's estimates are brother.

Do you always get the same stations gas? A couple stations around my area have gotten busted for watering down their gas...

My advice, use a different station, and do a few runs from full until right when the light comes on. Take your total miles and divide by 17. See what you're getting. The guys on here that are getting more 2 and 3 MPGs over EPA are either A.) hypermiling a bit B.) Doing mostly highway driving OR C.) BSing.

Huh? This only works if he has actually used 17 gallons. Why not fill the tank up and divide miles by the gallons it takes to fill up. Why estimate how many gallons you used when you can look at the meter on the gas pump and use the actual number of gallons used?

    This

Also, to the guy above in OH, winter gas is a totally different blend that uses more butane and is one of the reasons why winter gas will get you less mpgs compared to summer gas. It isn't the air temp, it is the actual gas.

I have an 08 V6 Access Cab 4WD with only 15K on it. I have NEVER seen above 17mpg. All stock except ARB front bumper. 255/60/16 winter tires this whole last winter. At 75 on the Interstate i get 16 max and variable driving (interstate, mountain highway, in town, occasional 4WD) I get 14.

I am anal. I calculate EVERY tanks fuel mileage

My 98 V6 got 20 on mountain highway and 18 on Interstate
