    Hey Guys,

Just curious if anyone else has noticed people listing regular SR5 Tacomas as TRD OR models even though the only thing OR about them is the sticker on the bed. You can clearly see it does not have the RR Diff Lock button in the cab or the correct seats.

    Here's an example:
    http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/2291499365.html

And I can't really see on this one. But I'm pretty certain it's false as well. Don't flame me if you can somehow see the buttons on the left side of the column better than I. The seats don't look correct either.
    http://corvallis.craigslist.org/ctd/2288025977.html

This guy didn't even spend the time to put the sticker in the factory location.

Anyone else send a message to these guys notifying them of the fraud they are attempting to commit?

No one? Haha. I feel sorry for anyone that buys these rigs and then gets on the forum and realizes what a real TRD Off Road is.

Still rolling my eyes about the guy over in the Blue Room that bought an FJ that he didn't know wasn't 4WD. Research anyone?

there's dumb people even in the supermarket so no surprise they show up on car lots too lol

that's their problem really, what you want to do babysit every single one of them and educate them on their purchase?

It's just amazing there are that many fraudulent sellers out there. I already have very little faith in humanity. But come on.

First ad doesn't advertise that is a TRD OR. It just had a bed sticker-not a big deal.

The second one is at a used car lot. This should scream ,"Fact check time" to anyone that is interested in buying this truck.

I knew some guy i went to high school with had an 06 PreRunner SR5 that had an TRD All Terrain Decal on the bed sides. He traded it in at the dealership and was listed with the "TRD Off Road Package" under the used section of the site.

    Yes.
I saw a Tacoma posted on Phoenix CL yesterday, it said it was a 4x4... Looked at the photos, definitely no 4WD. Grr.

Besides saying "Off Road" in the ad title. You're right.

I'm new to the Tacoma ranks, so I can actually say I'm not sure what differentiates one TRD truck from another from firm ground, but seeing the dealer one doesnt surprise me in the least.

I've owned a Mustang Gt that I bought new since 06....its not a shelby, and wont ever be though I've modded the hell out of it to raise it very close to the 'shelby standard'. But I would NEVER EVER tell someone its a shelby, though it certainly does resemble one in more than a little bit.

But I cant count the amount of times I've seen others at car shows or right on the dealer lot telling people the mustang they are looking at is indeed a 'shelby' though about the only thing it and a real shelby might have in common are the the tires. Unfortunately, attempting to pass one thing off as another much more expensive type of the same thing is older than any of us on these boards.

As one of the posters said previously....ultimately, its up to the possible buyer to research and know what is and what isnt 'real' and know the difference.

The only thing it seeing those posts do for me would be to make sure I never deal with those 'sellers'.

    Andretti
