I do like that budbuilt you don't have to reroute the exhaust, since my truck is registered in cali ad I don't feel like risking it.

From your build pics , it looks like you could use some fender skids too :)

Oh, didn't know you could do that with ATO. When I get a full set of skids I won't have to make the front ATO work with the budbuilts.

Oh I wont. Full set for sure! I def need a gas tank skid as well. I cringe when I crawl in the big rocks and know theres that plastic gas tank sitting unprotected just waiting to be nailed.

I've considered some aluminum skids in the less vulnerable places... something like 1/4" or 3/8" would be plenty strong but about 1/2 the weight of a 3/16" steel skid. I'll probably try one on my truck and see how it holds up to my abuse and then decide whether or not to market them.

I would want steel main and only aluminum for the gas tank.

    I like this.
I haven't come close to my gas tank yet but I am sure it's only a matter of time.
Nailed the crossmember two weeks ago on a rock while I was more focused on missing the trees. Just missed my oil pan by like 1/2 an inch.

I like my All pro front and mid for what it is. I'm not off road much lately nowadays and it offers the protection that I need.

I know here is a company that makes all aluminum armor for jeeps. Its real light and stronger than their steel competitors. (brother is a jeep guy, thats why I know some jeep stuff). So if Relentless makes some aluminum skid I maybe interested, depending on the grade and construction of course, but I have o doubt that it will exceed my standards.

Yea. I hope to make that one. Looong ass drive for me.
I think the ole prerunner has seen it's days out on the trails. Probably gonna retire it to 25/75 off road. Currently searching for a 75/25 off road rig (yota) that doesn't need to be trailered.

    I discussed this with him.

He's willing to do it if the customer really wants it, but we talked it over and 3/16 with his design really isn't enough to protect these heavy-ass trucks if you're going to seriously wheel it.

If you're fucking around in kitty boxes or fire roads, it'll be fine, but serious shit where you really need protection, 3/16ths wouldn't be enough.

Bud works at 3/16s because of the wider surface area helping to distribute forces. I have no doubt though that if push came to shove, they would crumple first in the rocks. I've seen some ATO front skids put through some *serious* shit, I worked mine pretty hard, and all of them have laughed at the hits.

I like design and looks of the ATO skids the best, but I do not like the idea of having to reroute the exhaust for the complete set of armor.:(

The Bud Built skids look more appealing because the exhaust does not need to be rerouted.

RelentlessTaco: If you are seriously thinking about designing and marketing some skids, I second the vote for 1/4" or 3/8" ALUMINUM. They would stand out as a unique product rather than just another steel skid.

Are any of the skids incompatible with any of the popular bumpers (Relentless, ARB, Shockworks, All Pro, etc.) ?

Dude, people should be rerouting that thing regardless of whether or not they're putting skids on.

The fact that it is where it is is fucking inexcusable, and I want to know what Toyota was smoking. Same with the T-case and crossmember.

Risk what, exactly? Rerouting your exhaust is not going to change your emissions at all.
