22nd RRB JFHQ, about to transfer to 20th SFG(A)....soon hopefully. My time in Recruiting has sucked the soldier right out of me. You?

Don't be skeered, research, look at TW, youtube, etc and you can get step by step directions.

It is; got it from NAPA. Duplicolor Gunmetal Wheel Paint. 2 Cans and I have plenty left over.

With my badges being flat, it would look odd. Plus, if I scratch or chip them, I can easily fix it without wet sanding, and getting into a whole world of hurt. Although, I think it will take a lot to scratch these. I also didn't want too glossy of a finish. 3 light coats of color and one progressively heavier coat will give a good gloss. Just dont paint so think that it runs. They currently have about the same amount of shine as the factory wheels did. Its hard to tell by the pics though.

Nope, I did remove the wheels and tires from the truck and taped off the tires very good though. It was a PITA but it was worth it. I tired the 3X5 note cards, but they wouldn't stay in place. I also went ahead and did the inside/back of the rims so everything was uniform; although I did not spend near the amount of time as I did on the outside. If it wasnt so late, and I wasnt so lazy, I would have done a step by step write up, but there are plenty already on here.

    That would look sick!!

It was not hard, just use electrical tape to get your initial line, it bends a lot better than painters tape. Take your time, prep is EVERYTHING when you sleeve the fogs, and have patience. Remember, if you mess it up, peel off the plasti-dip and start over! *FYI it holds up well also, I pressure washed the truck and the fogs and badges held up fine.

Miller High Life...The Champagne of Beers my friend.

To everyone else; THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENTS!!!

Ive owned my 2010 for 2 mos now have been looking at several different lift options, and yours looks to be about perfect in my opinion. I am pretty sure I am going with the same setup you have.

Infantry leads the way brother. Thanks for your service. How is life on the outside world?

Go for it, I take that as the ultimate compliment! PM me with any questions!

    No problem!

    Gracias Senior!

Your 1st Gen is SICK, the 1st Gens are what made me fall in love with Tacos. In fact, what really sold me was a 4 Door, 4 Cylinder diesel , 5 speed, 4WD Hilux we "borrowed" from a local in Baghdad. We put that thing through hell and it wouldn't die. (I just wish we had those options in America....)

    Thanks sir!

Sorry, didnt get you in the last multi quote. I did paint the center caps. I took off the chorme Toyota emblem so I didnt have to worry about paint on it. I just got my FJ TRD center caps in today and plan on painting them and putting them on to replace the factory ones. Stand by for pics!

Life is good! Although I do have to admit I miss being a soldier. I have a federal job with the USAF and wow I am glad I went to the ARMY!!!! You can't replace the discipline you get from the Army and Marines!!!!

I am glad i found this post as i have been considering painting my sport rims on my 09. I was originally considering black, but after having seen a few I just don't think the sport rims look very good in black. My truck is Magnetic grey so I am wondering if the grey wheels will be to much grey.....if anyone has pics please post. I am also wondering about painting with the tires on, would prefer to paint them without tires but not really possible.

    The graphite looks good!

Not sure how you managed to get the chrome off and back on but this is how mine came out. You inspired me to finally do this.

Shitty cell phone pictures, I'll try and get some better ones, maybe...

Looks nice! I'm planning on either painting my rims black or having them powder coated. How much work was the sanding and how did you do it? Wet or dry? Self etching primer before the paint? I've got some back problems currently but if I can do this myself and save money instead of having them powder coated I'll do it. Again, nice truck!

Sanding was a fair amount for me, but I may have gone a little overboard, I'm not sure. Sounds like some people just scuffed them up a bit. I basically sanded them to a dull finish. I did dry sanding. Used 320 grit, per Duplicolor's directions. Washed down with soap and water and the hose. Wiped clean with some mineral spirits and a clean cotton rag. Used duplicolor self etching primer. Painted face and backs of wheels. Went through a can of primer and probably a can and a half of duplicolor wheel paint. Leaves me plenty to touch up though. If you can trick a friend into helping you with the prep, it'll go easier.

Max, what size tire you have? I like the Grey, may be a little to much for my grey truck.

I think graphite looks awesome on a white truck. I also think bronze looks awesome on a white truck. And so does black. Man, white goes with everything!

    Very cool color choice!

I have pondered a similar color, but was unsure. You just confirmed it for me.

    Thanks!
