I Miss...

...having the shifter on the floor for going in and out of 4wheel hi/lo in the 1st gen Tacos. Am I the only one who does? I don't know what it is about the 2nd gen and having the switch on the dash, but i don't like it. Probably because it reminds me of how my chevy work truck operates in and out of 4wheel drive.. push of a button. yuck.
Thoughts?

 

Sell your 2nd gen and go back to a 1st gen. Problem solved.

 

I agree.. altho i didnt have a first gen, I have an 88' Pickup, but still the same concept. Miss my little buddy down there.

That sounds kinda weird. A push button that gets you into 4hi or 4lo, yuck. haha.

 

I dislike that feature, as well. It just feels a little cheap. Especially since they couldn't even bother having it light up from the factory...

 

So, those 1st gen transfer case shifters, do they allow for shift-on-the-fly? I wouldn't want to give that up. As long as the electronic version works like it's supposed to, I don't mind it at all.

 

yes, up to a certain speed..I cant recall exactly since I usually stop before putting it into 4x4

 

Thanks, I didn't know that, last 4x4 I had was a '79 CJ-5, it had a manual transfer shifter, it had to be stopped to shift. In that case I would prefer a manual shifter, less to go wrong.

I agree, I like the old shift levers. I haven't really used my 4x4 yet but have put it in 4x4 a couple of times just to let it turn when I was on gravel and my first instinct was to reach for the shift lever.

i miss this too, i just miss the feel of actually shifting into a gear, granted i never owned a 1st gen, but my little samurai had a manual t-case
