4x4 TRD sport rear locker ?

Test drove the 08 TRD sport 4x4 today and there wasn't a lock rear end switch but in 4low it felt like it was a locker rear end. Does this model have a lockable rear?

Sports don't have a locker. What you felt was driveline binding because you were turning in 4wd. You should not use 4wd when on pavement.

Thx. It felt like a locker because of the binding. I guess I'm looking for the TRD off road then.

You want a locked rear? Plug it in with a carrot

Good move... and even more amazing than a rear locker is the A-TRAC system on the '09+ if you can swing that. Makes 4 wheel drive into all 4 driving wheels!

It is standard on the 09 and up 4wd TRD offroad trucks.

OFF ROAD TRD 4WD (the only way to go for the bucks... hood scoops and color matched trim doesn't do a thing to help you climb a grade or get out of a stuck)

Step 1) A-TRAC:

Step 2, only if needed) Rear Locker:

Now YOU are in charge... go and get where you need to go, because you can!

Reminder. A skilled driver without traction control can most of the time out drive a non-skilled driver who has all the equipment but doesnt know how to use it.

I have seen this scenario many times.

There is nothing wrong with having a TRD Sport. I would put my Sport up against an Off Road any day. It is all in how you drive. I enjoy having a softer ride on the road than a stiffer one that a Off Road would have.

Does this mean that 4x4 sport is useless going up a mountain (Paved) road in snow conditions?

This is TRUE!

However, a skilled driver WITH traction controls is unstoppable!

Not at all, i use my 4x4 when it has been storming out and the roads are slippery and wet. On dry pavement is where you will get binding in the drivetrain. Snow/ice/sand... allow for the tires to spend at different speeds in a turn while in 4x4.

No... Use 4WD on low traction surfaces... paved roads UNDER snow and ice don't count as a dry paved road...!
