Supercharge my TACO or buy a Tundra??

Newbie to TACO world, life long Toyota driver....
I recently bought a 27' Camping trailer (4600lbs dry weight, 5800 Loaded) and the Taco definitely feels it when pulling it. I need just a bit more horsepower to pull it up the mountain. Should I fork out the $$$ to supercharge, or just trade er' in and get the Tundra? I noticed the Tundra doesn't have that much more towing capability then the TACO (7200 lbs???)
I have a 2008 Long bed Crew cab SR5 TACO with the 6500# towing package.
Has anyone had any towing experience with a supercharger? or a Tundra?

I don't believe I am exceeding the towing capacity at 5800.. correct me if I am wrong..

You're not exceeding limits. I kinda went through the same debate with my 1st Gen Tundra after I got a toyhauler. No complaints about my Tundra except when i tow the brick. I was looking to buy the 2nd gen Tundra with the mighty 5.7 V8. But you gotta look at this way though. How often are you going to be towing and really need the extra ponies? Chances are, you don't need the s/c or a trade in. Just take it easy going up the hill and not expect the truck to perform like it does without the trailer. If you do upgrade, keep in mind s/c requires premium fuel, but a V8 is going to burn more gas.

Haha. I though you said 6800. I just added 1000 to the number you posted. A blower would defiantly help.

Its not just power. Ive got a supercharger and yeah, with the supercharger it still helps making towing the boat up the mountains easier and theres tons more power over stock, but its still just as painful going back down with 4k pounds behind you on you otherwise normal truck. Not only that but the extra weight the tundra has must be nice to keep you planted on the ground when towing.

I put a s/c + URD 7th fuel injector on my Tacoma...just because. I don't tow with it (even though I could)...I have a Tundra for that.

If you have the moula, go for the s/c, just know your gas mileage will go down on the day to day driving and you're gonna have to run preimum. Gotta pay to play.

I love my Taco and am currently looking for a Travel Trailer. If I go over 4100 - 4200 dry (and about 5500 wet + cargo) I'm gonna have to upgrade to a Tundra.

Power is nice, but just like the quote says, can you stop it going down hill? Personally, I wish I could go with rear disc brakes on my taco, I think it would help alot when towing (especially with no trailer brakes), but anytime you're towing something that's heavier than your tow vehicle you gotta consider stopping power.

I know right where you're at on this and I'd be torn as well. I just need to find a TT under my weight limit is all, I don't wanna give up my Taco.

Keep in mind, most travel trailers have electric brakes, not surge brakes like most boat trailers. Having owned both, I can tell you they are different beasts all together.
If you set up your brake controller correctly, the trailer actually has a feeling of pulling the truck back rather than that feeling of a boat being shoved up your ass.

7200 I think is about right for the 4.6L depending on which package you get.

Exactly. I didn't skimp on the controller for that reason. Stopping is not the problem, its pissing everyone off behind me up the hills...impatient Colorado drivers..

Small Truck, but with a payload rated @ 6500lbs (w/V-6 and towing package)- your leaning towards the max tow rating, so if your hauling this load long distances and or frenquently, get a bigger truck.
I feel your pushing it trying to tow close to capacities with small trucks long distances- if your towing a larger boat to the ramp nearby, or a large trailer a short distance no biggy, but long distances I am going with a larger truck.
