Scanguage 2

Looking at where people place their scanguage, Im not paying the 50 big ones to have it by the mirror where you cant even see it good. So not to be too nooby, but how will it stay seated about the steering wheel like I see so many? 2 sided tape? Anyone have a close up pic of how theres is mounted? Would help, because Im ready to order one, and want to make sure I dont have to order the mounting garbage

 

No pics, but I put mine down in the pocket under the cigarette lighter/12V power plug stack in the center console. Put velcro on the back of the scanguage and a corresponding strip of some 2" wide industrial velcro I had around across the whole pocket. I use the side connection on the gauge. Beside anchoring the scangauge, I use the 2" strip of velcro as a mechanism to keep small things in place I might want handy (like an ipod, etc.)

I find the numbers are large enough to read while driving. And while it does require a look away from the road, I had a scangauge in a previous car and after it's there for a while it honestly it isn't something I need to have in my face.

I mostly use it for tracking gas mileage, and for OBDII codes and resetting of same. So, perhaps the answer will be dependent on how you intend to use the device.

 

Dead center on lip of roof liner, Back up monitor to the left GPS to the right.... I find glancing there is easier and maybe safer than looking down and way from the road.

 

Would you guys suggest me getting the blend or X mount?

 

Someone on here glued a couple of clips to the top of their scangauge and mounted it to the headliner above the mirror. Pretty slick solution if you ask me.

I "temporarily" installed mine in the little storage pocket by the driver's right knee (2wd only, I think 4wd get the emergency brake handle there). I wound up the unused length of wire and stuck it in first, then stuck in the scangauge. I liked the location so well (I can see the gauge display through the steering wheel easily) that I used velcro to mount it there 'permanently'. It's been there for a year and a half. Any time I take the truck in for service, I unplug the scanguage and take it with me, leaving the hook-up wire in place.

 

So if I want to put in right above the steering wheel on the piece of plastic (like a lot of people do) I can just use the velcro pieces that come with it? Just trying to figure out if the kit will be good enough

it has held up for almost a year like this, in -6degree weather all the way to 105degree weather

PERFECT! Exactly what I was looking for. BAM just ordered it without the Blend thingy!

 

Cool, It's nice because you can easily see it without much distraction

 

I made my own Blend thingy for about $5.

I bought the blendmount but it would not fit on my 2011 mirror. I ended up using it anyway and mounted it to my roofliner.

ya mine is a 2011 and I was worried about that too. I didnt get one, because I dont want to start taking stuff apart in the interior either. Just not confident enough yet (seeing how the truck still hasnt been delievered yet lol)

 

Did it this way, but with the measuring tape clips. Just left of the mirror. This is he best place IMO. (Tried on steering wheel, directly on left side of dash above the cluster.)

I am still on the fence about buying a scanguage and my biggest problem was where to put it. Then, i saw this add-on to kenwood HU:

Since I plan to install a new stereo/nav system, I found that this maybe a better alternative to Scanguage 2. What do you think guys? Anyone in the forum installed/considered/planned to use this?

 

I have it on my steering column but it's held in place by the data cord. The cord comes out the back and kinda wedges in place. It won't move and I don't have to mess with velcro or tape residue. Check my gallery for a closeup.

 

Its not a problem to have it above the steering wheel. I just installed mine and its fine right here, but I might still order the blend add on anyway to keep it more clean.
