going to buy a Taco in a few months. double cab or ext.?

Hey, new to the forums and really getting into how amazing these trucks are. So my plan is to buy a 2005+ Toyota Tacoma with the TRD off road package. But I have been thinking and stuff and have been wondering if I should get the double cab with short bed to just the regular bed with the smaller cab. I do plan on taking friends to places and stuff but I just am thinking which one would be better. Oh and all trd off road models are prerunners right? I am so confused with the models if someone could clarify that for me it would be nice

 

Well the TRD Off Road comes in a 4x4 to, if you are going to be hauling peeps around regularly I would recommend the Double Cab, works great for me.

 

I agree with NITRO375 get the DC... The rear seats in the access cab model are IMHO for short trips only. Go to a dealership and sit in the back of a access cab for 10 minutes then think about being back there for an hour.

I'd get a DC if you stand over 6'0 you can sit in the back with out your knees by your ears. One of the reasons why I went DC was because I got sick of riding in the back seat of my friends saturn when we went somewhere.

In my mind the AC is for people who want internal cargo room and an excuse not to drive when you go out in groups. The seats are rubbish for adults.

Get the double cab. The extra room might be overkill for your needs but it'll be there when you need it. And you will need it. The back seats fold down to create a nice, big, covered storage area that comes in handy. And your friends might fit in the back of the access cab but they won't like you very much if the trip is more than 15-20 minutes.

I bought the TRD Off Road access cab because they did not have the double cab with a long bed at the dealership. In hindsight I regret getting the access cab due to the fact that there is little room back there for storage let alone taking trips with people in the back. Hope this helps

I went with the 2008 DCLB TRD Sport 4x4 so that I could fit my wife, son and dogs in the cab. I personally like the aesthetics that the Sport model comes with and I needed a LB for hauling. Only thing I wish I had is locking rear differential, but I'm going to end up dropping some ARB air lockers in anyways.

 

If you won't need the long bed... then go with the double cab. Up in Canada you can't even get an off-road TRD with the double cab... access cab only, which sucks.

We needed the double cab, and the long bed, so the TRD sport was the only way to go.

 

I want to know Toyota's mentality on why there isn't a double cab, long bed TRD off road in a manual transmission, or simply put a locker in all TRD models. Because that would sure make my search for a truck a lot easier.
