I have an 04 Tacoma and have had the same issues for almost a year! I have taken it to several different mechanics and they all told me they couldn't find anything wrong and to keep driving it just turn up the radio! Finally I bought the parts and took it to a different mechanic and told him of the situation. After a few hours he called me and said he found the source of the problem and it was a rear wheel bearing that had gone out. When I went to pick it up I was thinking that I had just been ripped off cause I knew that it was in the front diff. Anyway long story but that was the problem the whole time! It just sounded like it was in the front end! The truck is so smooth and quiet now I am very happy with him and will go back in the future.

^^^ I like this post. It reminds me that things are not always what they may seem.

I had a Subaru that was making a loud rear wheel bearing type of noise. I replaced both rear bearings and still the noise. I then replaced the entire rear drive shaft, still the noise. Finally the entire rear differential, still the noise.

About ready to put the car out on the Interstate and set it on fire my eye caught the presence of a small rock that had wedged between one of the subframe mounts. It had found its resonance frequency and was sending the noise to the rear like a large musical instrument. A screwdriver removed the rock, noise gone.

Did your vibes go away when in 4wd? If so, weird that it was the rear wheel bearing.

Just an FYI for 1st Gens since I've seen a few others in here... I started a thread in the 1st gen section so we can find a solution and eliminate cluttering this thread and trying to filter through the information.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/276853-1st-gen-4x4-front-diff-bearing-vibration.html

I spoke to ECGS. The 1st gen bushing is still in the works but the rep couldn't gauge timing for availability. Since it hasn't been tested thoroughly, it didn't sound like it would be ready anytime soon.

Until we find a solution, what potential issues can arise from this? Can this be dangerous? Or just costly from CV or diff damage, etc?

Have any of you guy had to replace the CV axel when puting in the new ECGS bushing? Just wondering if the end thats floping around in the needle bearing is getting marked up enough to warrent changing. Mine has had the vibe for the last 12,000 miles. It's time to order the parts and get the job done.

Does anyone have exact dimensions of the bushing? (and I do mean exact)
Over the hassle/cost of getting one shipped across the border I figured i'd just fab up my own if the dimensions are readily available.

    If you say so :p
Holding this on the side just in case I get the issue when I lift my truck. Sitting at 130 000 km with absolutely no noise before lifting, so we'll see what it's like after 1.75" - might be putting an order in!
