Spacer lift resulted in a clunk

Anyone notice a light "clunk" from the front end on their yoters after installing a lift? Just lifted the bad SSA and its either upon light breakage at slow speeds or reverse backing out of the garage I notice a new and unique sound I can't find. Tightened everything I could think of and the only thing left on my list is the alignment.

PS - I wouldn't sell the truck for a smart car anyday. But I would try to run one over given the (safe & unoccupied) opportunity.

Just had that exact same noise. Does it only seem to happen when moving forward or backwards at slow speeds as you brake?

same here, i get it when i go from backing up to going forward out of a parking space. sounds like one of my tires is rubbing on plastic...but I know they are not since I have done some trimming.

Sounds like a driveshaft clunk to me. Remedy with rear axle shims, dropping the carrier bearing slightly, or if you have the $, a 1 piece driveshaft.

 

yes it is definitely the drive shaft i'm hearing. so which is better the shims or carrier bearing drop, both from Toytech

 

Maybe do both if possible do 1 at a time and list your finding here for future members.

 

Shims worked for me. Easy install! You can get them from Toytec.

 

I have an improvised carrier bearing drop on my 1st gen. It consists of 2-3 washers added to the 2 bolts that hold up the bearing/driveshaft. It helped. I have no experience with the shims.

 

I installed the shims along with the carrier bearing shims. No troubles here but can't say which one is responsible or if both are needed.

 

I have this as well and I haven't been able to locate it.. It's a metal on metal clank sound from the front end when lightly tapping the brakes going forward and backward. I also hear a rattle from the front end when going over small bumps.

I have an 06 prerunner and had the spacer lift installed for about a month with no clanks or rattles at all.. But once I replaced the spacers with 5100s and AAL, I started getting the noise in the front.

 

both routes are cheap so i think i might go for the carrier bearing first and see what happens, gona be 2 weeks i'll let yall know

 

Having the same issue, since they are an easy fix, I will do the job myself. What are the Toytec part #'s for the both of them (shims and carrier bearing drop). Will order Monday.

 

does this pertain to 4x2 or 4x4?? if it is for both will this be a must have or buy when you're planning to lift the truck or already lifted the truck since alot of you guys are experiencing the "sound" ??

 

Here is what the problem and solution was for me.

Have your front brakes checked. Seems like when the brake pads wear, a small piece of the caliper loosens (towards the inside). My mechanic replaced my pads and resurfaced my fronts and the noise is gone.

I was freaked that this was a major problem from my 5100 lift, but that was not the case.

 

any 6 lug, use it when lifting but not a must.

 

Thats probably a good idea to get my breaks checked. I'm at 57000 on original breaks.
