I just purchased this and the UPS man brought it today. I was reading the instructions on mounting it. They want me to drill 3 holes in the side of the bed. Is there a chance that after drilling the hole that it will rust in the future? I checked and it is actually in the metal, not the composite bed liner.

Do these extenders ship fully assembled or are they in pieces? Just trying to figure out if shipping is going to be expensive.

they come in three sections and is easy as 1,2,3. if you are worried about it rusting, id put some silicone in your holes before you put the screws in. (behind the plate you screw to the bed.)

i'll get some pictures. The few times i have used it, i really like it. When i put the screws in the side of the bed, i put some black roofing caulk on it first to seal it up.

Is it easy to remove when not needed? Does it come with some kind of quick release mechanism? Pics would be awesome. :)

yes, it sits in my basement most of the time. there are 2 quick release mechanisms that allow you to remove it in seconds. (part of the reason i don't' leave it in my truck)

I 've had mine on for two years. No signs of rust, installs and removes easily it has been very usefull. I love it ! With the tailgate in the closed position you can't release the latches to remove it. I have the tailgate lock installed so I hardly take it out.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Thinking about one of these myself. Can it be locked with a cable place to the tie down in the bed ? Or is it too easy to just pull apart to bother with. I don't have a place for storage if I leave it off.

This is the particular one I'm looking to get, I thought that this is the one krap22 has? OEM above should be made by AMP Research as well, but this one has different shape to better accomodare motorcycles and extra gear...

Yeah, you can lock it down to the D Rings with a cable if you need too.

Wow, I like that one. Will it clear the wheel wells when stored in the bed ? I might have to get one if it does.
