Thanks man! There are actually a few problems with the new drawing, so they detract from the flow... pretty small things but enough to almost noticeable. I'll iron all of that out when the time comes.

Final final variation on the concept. Made it darker, faired everything out, I can sleep easy now!

SO! Update, drew up some plans, got the measurements I need, and built a working model. Ordering the aluminum tubing, also got my hand on a limitless supply of fresh bamboo... What do people think? Would bamboo be awesome? Or do you think it wouldn't hold up to highway driving? They used to make planes out of bamboo... so I think it would be fine, it would also look so so cool!

    Thanks everybody!

I would go for aluminum. The durability is key. I wouldn't wanna have to do yearly maintenance on my soft top if i don't have to.

subd! ive been wanting to do this for a while but i do not have the knowledge or skill to pull it off lol

your concept looks good but i would much rather have it cab height the whole length of the bed. i love the look of the soft tops i just cant afford one.

i also thought maybe a brown canvass like the one in that pic of the big army truck would look sick on my tan truck.... super sick

oh and also i really cant see it helping your gas mileage in any noticeable way

but good luck with your build tho:thumbsup:

Great looking concept, and compliments on your photo shop skills! I like your idea of the bamboo too, tho not as durable as the aluminum. Still that is some creative thinking!

Working on it man! Don't worry, I want it done just as much as you! haha, sadly I don't think rushing it is a good idea.

I think for shits and giggles I'll make a bamboo frame for myself and see how it holds up. May just stick with aluminum. And thanks! I spend a lot of time drawing. Also had a job where I rendered stuff for people on photoshop and sketchup... fun stuff man!
    I'm in Massachusetts.

Too bad, I have a full set of spare parts for a Bestop and I'm sure the bed rails would have been handy in your project.
