I've attached the Toyota TSB for the problem. Hope it helps you, I can't tell you how much frustration they put me thru before I could shove this in their face.

Toyota has released a technical service bulletin (TSB) to address an issue with the stock radio assembly related to audio distortion when playing certain types of music. The T-SB-0037-13 says, “some 2010 – 2012 model year Tacoma vehicles with Access Cab may exhibit audio distortion, particularly with music containing heavy bass, at higher volume levels, or with Fade set to Rear. An updated radio assembly is now available to address this condition.”
Would like to see the TSB.

Mine has this problem too. I never did anything about it. Now it's too late to get it fixed by Toyota, since my truck now has 76000 miles and nearly 7 years on it.

I just bought mine from my aunt. I got a great deal on it and wasn't aware of the issue. I took it to Toyota with the TSB (unaware of the issue or TSB). They sent me to parts...$650 for a new amp. I emailed JBL and they said they could repair the amp if I sent it in to them for $300 or $350 (can't remember). I asked what the turn around time was and they said 24-48 hours once they had it. I was expecting it to be longer. Said they'd warranty the work for 1 year.
