Unhappy Advice-Issue w/new Taco

Background: Around 600 miles I started noticing the truck had a somewhat jolting rough 1-2 shift and eventually started developing a backlash/thunk feel when coming to a stop. I now have 3500 miles on the truck and it continues to do it as well as what can only be described as a binding feeling when coming to a quicker stop and slowly letting off the brake towards the end.

I have been to the local dealer and one other dealer for a total of 6 times thus far. Every single time they tell me it is a normal characteristic of the truck. I have had a corporate toyota guy inspect it and a corporate technician guy look at it. The corporate technician guy stated in the write up and per my service advisor that they "verified the condition" and it is normal.

I am really fed up and tired of fighting. I really like the truck and don't want to get rid of it but just want this issue fixed. I really don't believe it is normal like they tell me.

What do you guys think:

Issues:
-Backlash/clunk when coming to a relaxed stop.
-Binding when coming to a stop and letting off the brake slowly towards the end (truck seems to jump).
-Vibration (sometimes worse than others) at about 20-25mph deacclerating

Anyone have these issues or had them and got them solved? Where should I go from here? Please PM me if you have as I really would like to get something done about this.

Thank you for taking the time to read and I really appreciate any opinions or advice someone can give me.

sorry to hear you are having problems. hopefully, they will get squared away quickly!!! did the dealers check the transmission fluid level?? sounds like maybe a part of the problem, then......they may need to look into the torque converter and maybe the drive shaft....................could end up being a faulty transmission. you need to stay on the dealers/corporates ass till they get your truck fixed!!

They've checked the trans fluid 3 times now and each time it is fine. As for the driveshaft, they've put it up on a lift and looked at it. Supposedly it is fine as well.

then i guess now they need to check the carrier bearing in the diff and also check the torque converter in the transmission. thats about all i can think of that could be wrong.

As for the binding release issue with the brakes - I get that when I have a quick stop then let the breaks off slow - feels like the trucks suspension is "finding" itself again.

hope this helps you out.
Would you be able to fax me a copy of your service printout? I keep telling them that replacing the driveshaft will fix my problems. Can you send me a PM and I'll send you my fax number? Please? I can't figure out how to send the PM....arhhhh

Chazma,

For some reason the option to PM you doesn't come up....You probably need to go in an change that. Can you please fax me a copy of your service invoice?

I called Toyota corporate and they told me that my only option at this point is to file for arbitration. I really like the truck and really don't want to give it up when I know the driveshaft will probably fix the problem. Anyone have any ideas or have a friend at a toyota dealership in socal that can help me?????

^Do yourself a favor and remove that fax#. You don't want that kind of trouble.

To send a PM, click on the users screen name and you'll see "Send a private message to X" in the drop down box.

Sounds to me like you're on the right track. I haven't had those issues so I can't really comment. However, if you continue to have problems, continue to elevate the issue. Go to the dealership GM next, then the owner, and then Toyota corporate.

I'm already at Toyota corporate, and they said its normal...basically their done. My only option is arbitration (lawsuit).....its good to know Toyota stands behind their product...

On my '06, I had an annoyance with the brakes. Coming to a stop, the truck jumped. However, it was just a small annoyance that didn't happen with any regularity (and the dealership couldn't reproduce it). I also couldn't tell if it was just my braking style - maybe I didn't push the brakes hard enough.

However, on my '09, I can tell a definite difference in the feel of the brakes. No jumping. Brakes are stiffer...

Hope you get your problem fixed.

the jumping sounds like a torque converter not disengaging quick enough when you come to a stop. hope you get it fixed....
