Diff breather mod is done! I had already bought 6' of fuel line so I installed the "filter" by the gas cap like the OP...would have preferred doing it by the taillight. It came out great regardless! Thanks for all the tips. I think the hardest part was getting the fuel line on the breather...it was a fight!

I was just wondering for the Tacoma's that don't have the bed pockets to get easy access to the gas cap area, what other areas other than behind the taillights can I use. Not saying I won't go that way, I was just wondering if there was anywhere else somebody went?

I put mine in the cubby with the door. Cubby held in w/screws so easy to remove and re-install.

I saw one done that way. Was in the OBX in the Carolinas. Don't think the guy ever put a build or pics of it on here.

We were talking at a camp site. Mentioned he used almost 15-20 feet of hose. Dielectric greased the rest of the truck and moved all the sensors he could as high as he could. I asked to see the breather. he tapes the headliner and let me do the same. Yep, felt the hose up there vs mine that didn't have it in there.

Just finished the breather mod today. I ended up using 5/16 heater hose and about 7 ft worth. I ended up routing it up behind the drivers side taillight like Square a couple posts above. I felt like I gave it enough slack for movement but is there any way to be sure aside from actually taking it out? Just don't want to run into a problem and it end up coming off when I'm actually on the trails.

Square what did you buy to secure the breather end behind the tailgate? Temporarily had to use a zip tie for the time being until I can find something more secure.

Just a rubber coated clamp from either Autozone or Pep Boys. Can't remember which exactly, but you should be able to find them at most hardware stores as well.

Just did this mod on my new 14, I routed mine up the filler neck and just behind the breather for the charcoal canister.

Thats pretty good! It only cost me $27.xx to source things and ship some of them to my door. The hose (6ft) and clamps i got at advanced auto.

6ft was just enough to run mine inside the frame and up behind the driverside tail light.

***I had the truck at full droop to do this mod, makes it easier to leave room axel movement.***

I did mine right at the gas cap. Mine came with 5 ft and it seems to be perfect for gas cap location. It looked like i would have needed more hose to do it by taillight.

    I added a bolt once...
I did mine based on the tail light location thread...took about 9' of hose.

Just finished this mod myself. I wasn't planning on doing it as I didn't really plan to be crossing a lot of water. However, Colorado weather is like a bipolar crack addict. After getting caught in a fairly bad storm and having the road nearly wash out on me I figured I had better get it done. Ran the breather to the fuel filler housing just like the OP said to. Took all of 30 minutes to get done. Thanks for the info OP!
