sounds like you had an accident and you should claim in on your insurance.

DO CHECK ON THE INSURANCE FACTOR. ALL THEY CAN SAY IS NO.
I HAD A $5000 FORD TRANS REPLACED IN MY TRUCK BECAUSE THERE WAS UNEXPLAINED FILING IN IT.
THIS IS THE BEST ONE. LAST YEAR, LONG STORY CUT SHORT, MY BOBCAT HAD AN ENGINE FIRE. A F/N BIRD BUILT A NEST ON TOP OF THE ENGINE BY THE MUFFLER. A BIRD NEST THAT COST $6000. THE ENGINE HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REMOVED, NEW FUEL TANK, LINES AND FLUIDS. I WAS OUT OF MY MIND UNTIL I CALLED MY HOMEOWNERS INSURER AND THEY COVERED IT UNDER MY HOMEOWNERS POLICY. I DO NOT USE MY MACHINES OFF MY PROPERTY.

SO PLEASE MAKE A CALL YOU MIGHT GET LUCKY.

A SIDE NOTE. THAT F/N BIRD OR HIS RELATIVE TRIED IT AGAIN 2 WEEKS AGO. IT TOOK ME OVER 2 HOURS TO CLEAN AND BLOW OUT THE NEST.

YES I NOW COVER THE BACK WHEN NOT IN USE AND CHECK IT EVERY TIME I USE IT.

    HOPE YOU MAKE OUT.
    KEEP US POSTED.

This. The insurance co can decide to take it up with your DOT if they want, but I think you have $600 worth of documentation to prove it was an accident. If you hit a pothole and flipped your truck, they wouldn't deny it. Or if a log fell off a semi trailer and blew through your winshield and jacked up your hood or whatever, it's insurance. I don't see any difference here.

    starting soon......
I'm in Charleston, SC and my buddy have his vette downtown during a heavy rain. Needless to say the streets flooded, the vette ingested water, and blew the motor. USAA paid him $8K for it. Freak accident! CALL YOUR INSURANCE! The most they can say is no.

Good idea - I'm going to report it to insurance; worst they can do is say no.
Maybe there's a chance they'll pay for at least some of it.

However, I know insurance doesn't cover nails in tires so I wonder why they'd cover a nail in the engine. Anyway, we'll see. I pay for the insurance so I might as well see if they'll pony up.

Why are you so certain it wouldn't cover nails in the tire? I just think that since repair cost would never realistically exceed deductible, why bother?

Your case here is clearly diffferent!

2900 for a timing cover? Sounds like the cover must be made of gold! I'd get a second opinion from another shop.

OK, called insurance; sending an adjuster out in a few days. They said they most likely will pay under comprehensive/no-fault clause, less the deductible, which I have to pay to the dealer. Nevertheless, they're going to cover about 75% of it, which is worth it even though I'll have to wait an extra three days. I'll take the wait and let the insurance pay, no problem.

Thanks for the insurance suggestion, guyz. I didn't think they'd cover because it was such a bizarre thing.
