Power shift a stick?

Anybody have expierience with powershifting a 4.0 6speed tranny? Been doing it for years in all my dodge cummins and never had a clutch or throwout bearing problem ,How about the tacomas ?

Drive how you like. The clutch serves the same function as power shifting, to break torque.

 

I don't have any experience power shifting the 6, but I double clutch my AT5 all the time.

Seriously can you describe exactly what you mean by power shifting it. Some people don't understand what power shifting is defined as.

 

I think he is refering to slip shifting... Yes I do but most folks on hear frown upon slip shifting their Tacos. Mine actually shifts nice and smooth.

 

Power shifting is, leaving the gas peddle on the floor(bouncing off rev limiter) while shifting between gears. At least that's what everyone I have ever known calls it.

If thats what you are referring to, I would highly recommend you don't. Most stick vehicles can't tolerate that for long. I know it will eventually blow the clutch in a stock BMW M3.

If your talking about floating the gears (like a 18 wheeler), I would like to know the answer to that too. I imagine it can't be good for the synchros though, unless you can time it perfect every time.

 

Wait how is double clutching bad?

 

If this is what your talking about, as long as your good at it, sure why not. Although the only real benefit you get is not having to dump on your clutch at low speeds up hill.

I wouldn't do either of these with mine. The six speed is not the right trans to abuse. Has a reputation for being less than bulletproof and expensive to fix.

 

i do it in the higher gears. 1-2 and 2-3 is pretty tough with this truck though. anything after is actually really nice and easy and smooth.

 

Powershifting or double clutching is definately not what I meant . Floating the gears or slip shifting is what I meant to say I. It just seems like I can ease it around much better and do it without really getting above 2500 rpms real easy? I just dont know about doing any damage to the throwout bearing or anything else thanks .

 

I thought power shifting was synonymous with slip shifting. So, power shifting, I would say, is bad. Slip shifting is good.
Who the f thinks that running up to the rev limiter is a good idea anyway?

That looked like a power shift between 2nd and 3rd.

 

you dont have to be going balls to the wall to powershift. its just shifting without using the clutch. though the video is what you would do if going as fast as possible =)

 

If you are not forcing it through the gears you are not hurting anything. If you are jamming the gears you are going to break something quickly. If I want to shift fast I use the clutch... If I am not in a hurry, I will slip shift from 2nd on. Just accelerate, let off and slip into the next gear and accelerate again. My taco shifts real smooth that way.
