Thinking about trading the Access cab for regular cab

    2013 Reg Cab 4x4 5spd
I have a 2010 reg cab 4x4. Bench seat, 5 speed. I'm 6'4" and I fit ok. More room would be nice, but it's not awful, either. And unlike others, I don't mind the bench seat. I can drive to Portland and back (about 9 hours total) without a problem, other than wishing I had cruise control. The bench seat is nice for the occasional time when I take two passengers, or the dog and a passenger.

The five speed is really good. I've not experienced any of the issues the people with six speeds complain about (including rpm hang, etc). It feels solid, and shifts fine for a truck. Real world gas mileage seems to be averaging just over 20mph, about half short trips in town and half long highway driving.

Definitely test drive the auto and 4 cyl combo. Its a relative comparison, you'll obviously be giving up some power. Try a good hill and hill acceleration. Dont get dizzy, they can turn tight enough to make you think you'll see the tailgate. Dont get freaked out when you think the gas guage is reading high, it isnt. We at TRG (Toyota regular cab) :D cant invite you to the clan but we can show you the way.

YotaDan & ImpulseRed008 have some good talking points to consider along with some others of course. I would think that you already have a cross-country vehicle that you could use to throw the dog, weapons, luggage, chow and whatever else in because that is the downsize on the regular cabs. Heck, even adding a topper configuration for this is cumbersome when trying to get to your stuff while rolling down the road when needed.

I loved my 08 access cab however, went to the 09 4dr because my long haired Eastern German Shep felt cramped in the access cab. Hell, I think that the access cabs look grRReat, but so do all the rest of'em, lol, as you well know.

Whatever you get, when and if it happens, I'm sure that you'll love it because it will be what you wanted the Most and that is what counts...not us.

You will like the 5sp better than the 6spd.I think they should use the 5pd instead of the 6sp in the V6.If you go for a reg cab it will have a choppie ride.Shorter WB.

Toyota cut way back on available option configurations in 2011.

In 2010, you could get an SR5 regular cab 4x4.

In 2011, if you want regular cab 4x4, base model is the only way it's available.

This is not just from the Toyota.com configurator, but also from press releases announcing the 2011 models that specifically said Toyota was cutting back the number of available configurations.

You are correct. It also seems as though for 2011+ you can only get the regular cab 4x4 with bucket seats. Seems as though bench seats are no longer an option on the reg cab 4x4. This blows.

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
Basing your decision on looks and not practical implications is a fail, but it seems many on this forum do just that.
The AC is much more practical and the financial implication doesn't add up.
BTW, I get to drive my buddies' C55 and love it.
Highest top speed I've ever driven.

No bench in the new 11 reg cab? Buckets only; really? OK you buy the truck and I'll swap seats with you!

Dont do it, my brotha. I had a regular cab, and had no place to put stuff. My wife had to ride in the bed because all my crap was on the passenger seat:D Looks aside, practicality will matter at some point, IMHO.

(DIY)...Fog lights, alloys, wheelwell liners, tonneau, frame cleanup & rustproofing, floor mats, trailer hitch.
I've had four regular cab Toyotas (three were 4x4) and all but one were manual tranny 4 cyl. The 4 cyl. on these trucks is (IMO) a bit underpowered but still ok for normal use. I'd never go back to the regular cab, though. The extra space of the access cab (the mini-door idea is nice too...but they really only need one of them) is just too darned handy to go without. Although all of my trucks had either a cap or a tonneau, that extra inside lockable and dry cab space of the access cab is hard to beat.

At dealership today and saw 11 reg cab 4x4 w/ bench seat! It also had BFG all-terrains, TRD wheels, tube steps, Barcellona red w/ black over fenders, really nice ride.

Uh no. My 2011 has the bench seat.

I think the way it works is you get buckets with the automatic, and bench with the stick.

    Let's not overdo the generalities.

"Practical" depends on what you use it for. And cost enters into the practicality equation as well. 4x4 std cab is a lot of truck for the buck.

Std cab is perfectly practical for my personal application.

^Correct. And you can get variable speed wipers in an option package only with the stick...

xxaarraa, the 2011 reg cab 4x4 auto comes with the same buckets & console as an access cab, with the floor shifter. The auto ONLY comes with buckets, likewise the 5-speed only comes with a bench. And you can't get any kind of convenience pkg on it. A reg cab will only have manual locks & windows. That being said, I LOVE my reg cab auto. I've owned 2 with 5-speed and my 3rd one with the auto. There is different gearing for the 2, and the auto feels like it has plenty of power. There is NOT a big difference in power, as some would have you believe. A friggin Yaris could accelerate faster than my 07 or 09 5-speed trucks, and it would still beat my auto, I'm pretty sure. But I don't care, it's got plenty of power for every day drivability. It had plenty of power for me earlier today when traffic was stopped on the expressway and I decided to pull a u turn across a wide, steep, and slippery median (it was raining, and I would not have tried it in a 2wd truck).
I do love my reg cab, but since I just sold my other car, I need to get a shell now.

:( Sadly yes. Not by much, but he still pulled me by a bit.
That being said, no one buys a reg cab Taco for the street power. ;)
