I don't think it's the cats. Mine are empty and I still have the fault.

You'll always get the code with empty cats. If the cats aren't doing their job the second sensor's readings will be wrong, and always throw the code. The sensors compare readings before and after the cats, so if the cat isn't doing it's job (empty or clogged) then the comparison is wrong and you get the code.

At this point I might just look into a couple O2 sim chips and gut the cats, but i don't want to fight with trying to get the rusted bolts apart. I would probably need new gaskets too.

Take one of these spacer dealio's, screw the downstream o2 sensors into them to pull them out of the stream, and it runs fine with no cats. There is enough difference between sensors it won't throw a code, usually. That's why I think it's something else. I ordered new upstream 02 sensors, we'll see what happens.

So you had the cats gutted for a while without the code? I had to chip the sensor in my Corolla due it burning so much oil I think. I see URD makes a dual-head chip for our trucks for $140. Still cheaper than a new cat. lol

I have a sensor wrench, and a spacer. I just don't want to mask the code just yet due to the rough exhaust and idle. It sounded/felt (more vibrations) like more that just a sensor issue.

The URD sensor is the right way to do it for sure. Yes, I may have been using spacers for a while with no cats. Only in offroad competition though lol.

Update: Replacing the upstream O2 sensor fixed mine. I'm also going to replace my fuel pump with the URD kit and DeatschWorks 320LPH pump. I know it's overkill, but I'm hoping it will last longer if it doesn't work at max capacity and at least I will be able to easily replace the filter.

Got the P0430 Bank 2 CEL code two weeks ago @126k odometer miles. Cleared the code and it came back after 25 miles. Ordered up a new downstream 02 sensor at Rockauto and bought the non-fouler pkg at Autozone.
Replaced with OEM spec Denso spark plugs, cleaned throttle body and MAF sensor, and took a 800 mile road trip to visit family in Buffalo during the holidays. All on 93 octane premium winter blend fuel. CEL never came back.
Now I have a spare 02 sensor and non-fouler kit.
Will update if the code returns.

Glad the quick maintenance cleared it up for now. If it comes back check your fuel pressure. The codes are a lean condition, lean condition is too much O2/not enough fuel i.e. low fuel pressure.

    Wow. What a coincidence.

I got the P0430 code again THIS morning (CE light plus VSC light), after over a year from my last post here.
I cleared the code and am waiting to see if it returns.
The 20 degree temps this morning probably had something to do with this.

:pccoffee: That anti-fouler is just masking a real problem.

Didn't do the anti-fouler mod last year. Didn't have to. The maintenance: spark plugs, cleaned throttle body and MAF sensor and a 800 mile road cleared the whole thing up, at least that's my theory.

Sorry to resurrect thread. Lots of good info, thanks.

My 2009 is throwing a similar code (bank 2) after changing the plugs and a fuel system cleaning. Mechanics are changing both upstream and downstream o2 sensors on that bank. Looks like white fouling on the o2 sensor, just getting old (about 100,000 miles).

But he's getting quoted some ridiculous prices on the upstream sensor, like $700 or more. He showed me options and gave me a deal. But if it happens again on bank 1, I'll have to replace those too. Any ideas what an upstream o2 sensor should go for? Downstream seems about $130 give or take. Thanks!

Also, should I disconnect the power so the ECU clears the long-term fuel trim offsets? I read that can work on some vehicles. The spark plugs are upgraded, not splitfire but something similar.

Denso is the factory brand, they can be found on Amazon and eBay for much cheaper.

No the computer will correct itself once you correct the problem. Factory plugs are just fine, you're not gonna gain much if anything using others.

    Also digging

I made a new thread of my own but had no luck.

I have P0430. I replaced all the O2 sensors and ran cleaner through the system as well as some cataclean.

Still get P0430. I also once in awhile will have an excessive crank/start time or need a coupe cranks to get it started then it runs fine. Does that seem to line up with a weak fuel pump? Wondering if the pump is responsible for both issues........ FWIW it’s a 2010 V6

Sounds like it could be lack of fuel or fouled spark plugs? Check the plugs and fuel pressure *you'll need to make a pressure check fitting

Thanks! I’ll look into testing fuel pressure.

I actually replaced the plugs first thing after noticing the startup issue.

Would you happen to know off the top of your head what “normal” fuel pressure should be?
