Unbelievable Close Call

So I was driving on the freeway today and there was a 6' steel pipe in the lane ahead of me. The car in front of me drives right over it and launches it into the air (right at me!!). It's spinning around and I know some f'd up sh**s about to happen to my truck coz i'm right in its path!! I have no time to get out of the way and I just feel it smash into my Tacoma hard! It was flying about so wildly I couldn't even tell where it hit exactly. So once I'm off the freeway I get out and look. Hmmm nothing dented on the hood. Nothing dented on the grill. Where the hell did it hit me?? And then I see it. The left headlight is all scratched up. I'm the luckiest mofo there is. It coulda smashed my windshield, dented my hood, anything. But instead I get a scratched up headlight. I popped the hood to see if there was any damage and the plastic headlight casing that's bolted inside the hood has been cracked in two different places. But everything still functions and no serious damage. Wild. Tomorrow I go in for my 5k maint.

This is the one thing we all dread, but glad to hear that your oky, and the truck only suffered minor injury, compared to what could have happened. I had that same sinking feeling when a deer hit me and I got out to see what damage there was.

So the Tacoma commercials are accurate?!?!? They are indestructible!

No, seriously, I am really glad that you walked away unscathed for the most part.

Doesn't it feel good to laugh in the face of danger? but seriously, glad you're ok and your truck isn't seriously injured. Hope you thanked God for that little miracle...

you should have chased down the a-hole that ran over it. That pole could have killed you, never mind the truck damage....what kind of person doesn't see a pole laying in the road so as to avoid running over it? There was an incident in philly about 7 years ago where a tow truck guy left a torque converter on the back of his truck got on the highway doing about 70mph the torque converter rolled off the truck in the direction of oncoming traffic and (2) 10 year girls in the back seat of an Acura, watched their father decapitated by this thing. A friend of mine was driving by the accident on the way home from a hockey game he saw the car, he said all the windows except the windshield of course, were covered with blood....the 2 little girls survived no injuries ...so don't take this lightly....be thankful for your life, you can always fix the truck..

The blame is not the person who rolled over the pipe but the person that did not properly secure their cargo. I do not swerve if I can safely role over something in the road. My reasoning is that I will likely do more damage trying to swerve out the way of a cardboard box full of kittens than if I were to just hit it.

Yeah I definitely wasn't putting blame on the motorist in front of me. I would of rode over the pipe as well if I were him. Things always seem to hit me on the freeway...smashed into a huge box filled with styrofoam on the 405 a year ago.
