Squealing/chirping/whining only goes away when clutch is engaged

I hate to start another thread about this, but I sifted thru as many of the other threads as I could and couldn't find anything definitive to my situation. My truck: 2006 Tacoma Access Cab 4x4 6spd Manual

The problem I'm having is that my truck squeals ALL the time unless I depress the clutch pedal. It seems like a lot of other drivers have the issue of the truck only squealing when the clutch is depressed, which would be the throw out bearing, but mine is the opposite. I believe it is also throw out bearing related, but I need a sanity check before I go throwing money at replacing something that may not actually be the problem.

For awhile I thought it was the belt or a pulley, but the belt has been replaced and I noticed that it is 100% clutch pedal related after some vigorous testing with my left foot.

So I have the exact same truck with the exact same problem. how did your fix work and should I do the same?

It's most likely your throw out bearing and if your going to replace that you should go ahead and drop a clutch in it since it's already going to be apart

 

Have the exact same problem, squeaky noise I can hear when parked or at a stop light in neutral, goes away when clutch is pressed in.

Mine has been doing this for well over a year now or even longer. It is currently not a DD. Is this something I should be concerned about, or just keep driving? Truck has about 100k miles.

I will search TW for some more info in this. Thanks for any input.

 

Did you ever find an answer to this somewhere else? I have the same problem. Squeaking when clutch is not engaged, whether I'm stopped and idling, in neutral and costing, in gear and coasting, in gear and accelerating. Thanks.

 

That's definitly the throwout bearing. That bearing is always spinning(outer peice is in the clutch fork, inner peice on riding against the back of the clutch) until you step on the clutch. When you step on the clutch the clutch is disengaged and stops spinning therefore the throwout bearing stops spinning. The squeak is either caused by a bad bearing or a very common problem with the 6 speed trans where the stub over the input shaft that the bearing slides on prematurely wears causeing a clearance issue and the bearing is not right against the clutch anymore causing the chirping. There is an aftermarket solution to replacing that stub but I don't have a 6 speed so I never saved any of the links

The only permamnent damage you're doing by delaying replacing the throwout bearing is, you're grinding your clutch fingers off. The noise is your clutch fingers slowly grinding off. At one point you will no longer have the ability to disengage/engage the clutch. No real disaster, but inconvenient.. lol

Replace the clutch while you're in there..

Depends on your definition of expensive and if you are paying for the labor required...........

 

For my TJ it was about $600 cash. $ 300 for clutch and bearing + $ 300 labour.. Probably about the same for a Tacoma.

I have the exact same truck with the exact same problem. I've been looking for a replacement option for the clutch to fix this, besides just replacing the throwout bearing.
Does anyone have any experience or opinion on this replacement part from URD?

 

I got the URD throw out bearing kit in summer 2014, got new Exedy clutch put in at the same time. No more issues since.

It was explained to me first by someone posting here and than confirmed by the shop doing the work that that can be permanent damage to the transmission quill. I'm not technically inclined at all so you better do your own research on that or someone will hopefully chime in and prove me right or wrong. Either way, this is the best explanation I found atm that makes sense to me...

Bottom line for me is I got it done, chirp is gone, new clutch in at the same time as luckily old one did not have ton of life left anymore at the time so good timing. Now moved on to fixing other shitty Tacoma issues.
