05 6 speed issues.. tell me what you think?

ok fellas toyota really got me scratching my head here.. i drive a 05 double cab 4x4 6 spd and started having trouble with getting the tranny in gear.. it just wont go in gear so it makes me think its the sycros.. but the tranny shop said it could either be the forks or the sycro and dont know till they get in it but im not sure if you wanna know the cost.. 400 to take it in and out no matter what it is.. 2800 if its the sycro and 1100 if its the forks but damn it this seems rediculous to me!!!!!!!!! sorry just felt like i needed to vent.. i thought these 6 speeds were tough.. trucks got 108,000 miles.. what are yall thoughts?

 

Cheapest option first: change your tranny fluid. I've used Redline and Silkolene products without any problems. I believe the Taco has a magnet on the drain plug so you'll be able to see how much metal has collected. It should be really fine shavings, that's completely normal.

When was the last time your tranny fluid was changed?

 

im pretty sure its more than just that.. but im gonna take it out the truck and have a buddie take it down and see whats the issue but idk if its been changed before i bought it but ive never changed it since i own it

Had similar issue on my 05 A/C 6 speed was driving went to put it in second and didnt go. Towed it home knew it was the forks bought a new one from toyota parts online which was like 100 and some bucks and while I was at it bought a new clutch for like 140 and did the install with the help of my dad and his friend. Total cost was just parts, when I pulled the forks half the teeth were bent in and wouldnt engage the clutch the replacement was thicker and more heavy duty. The stock pressure plate was thin and flimsy might be your problem but 1100 ouch
