Saturday my Tacoma didn't want to start, took 3 tries, then I got the Check Engine Light. At 9K miles I didn't expect that. She's at the dealer now. The dealer thinks I did it, they made me initial a $92 diagnostic fee in case it turns out to be my fault. WTF? Why do they think I did something? I never did like dealers. Runs fine after it starts, just really sketchy starting.

sorry to hear of your problems. i wouldnt pay the diagnostic fee...........thats why there is a warranty. and for them to tell you they think you did it.....absurd. its probably a sensor that went bad or something...........highly doubt you did it it. any aftermarket intakes or anything of that nature that you have added??

No intake, exhaust, or chip. Had an AFE dry flow, swapped with stock filter just in case. The truck's de-badged, TRD short shifter, and a TRD shift knob...nothing they should care about. When he asked me if I wanted anything else done to the truck I said "maybe install a super-charger....", it was a joke but it might have made him suspicious. I never had to initial any fees for a warranty complaint before....

I also mentioned a TSB for "Intermittant Starting" valid on the 07's. I should have stayed quiet.

when you go to pick the truck up.......talk to the service manager.....and let him know up front that you aint gonna pay for the damn diagnostic fee. dont let them walk over you man. whatever is wrong....definitely should be covered by warranty. hopefully...you get the truck back soon man!

Turns out some critter chewed through a harness. I have an open on some cam timing sensor wire caused by a critter chowing down. Estimated $280 to fix it.

How do you keep rats out from under your hood?

.....my mom's 18-1/2lb (not an exaggeration) cat that loves to hunt them and some sticks of poison in the corners of the garage. if you drive it daily and park in a little bit different spot it helps to deter them too. my dad had the same thing happen in his '99 Jeep Grand cherokee and his '03 Tahoe. there have been a few traces of them under my hood but no problems yet.

We have a hard enough time keeping the riff-raff out of here, you really think we know about rat control?

When I close up the camper for the season I drop moth balls around. Also go buy yourself some flea collars, well not for YOU but for this application. Cut them up into 2"-3" strips and lay them out. Place them in small crevices and holes. That keeps the creepy crawlies out too.
