I have a 08 tacoma sr5, on the front of the rear fender there's this clear tape there, do I leave or remove it and what is it for

2009 Tacoma TRD Long Box

It is 3M paint protection. It is supossed to be there to protect the paint. This is an area that takes a beating from rocks/gravel.
