Just to update: I banged on it for at least 2 hours with a regular hammer and crowbar. I said screw this and went and bought a 4lb sledge hammer and 2 hits / 2 minutes later it's in. Really helps to have the right tools.

    Thanks everyone for your help

LOL that a 4lb hammer is "the right tool for the job." :D

Bumping an old thread as to not start a new one.

I’m reinstalling passenger side and it does not seem to me like I got it far enough in to start beating on it. I’m on the splines but it feels like I only have about 1/4” started and shaft needs to go another 1” to be fully engaged. Based off of what I’ve read here it sounds like i should be able to push it in another 1/2-3/4 before hitting it with a BFH.

    What am I missing here?
