^This. I just had mine replaced under warranty last month after 23 months of service. Mine was overheating and spewing acid in the engine bay. The service adviser told me it was normal for lead acid batteries to do that. He made me laugh. Whatever. I have a brand new one now.

Check on your voltage with the engine running. If you have a tender, trickle the battery up to 12.7v and start your truck. With the engine running, your DC voltage should be about 13.7.

If you get anything else, write back and let us know

But 39k seems like the appropriate life for the generic battery that toyota issues with new vehicles. Many others have reported similar issues. Keep in mind though that putting a massive drain on your truck will cause your MPG to go down and will exacerbate the demise of your alternator.

Like others have said on here, check all of your wires first. Also, clean the connectors to your battery and or check the water level in your battery. I started to have those symptoms; then I cleaned the connectors with a old school tool that looks like a circular wire brush and filled the battery with distilled water to the appropriate level. The dealer also replaced the battery caps since they did not sit flush on the battery top. Knock on wood, I have not had to replace mine yet, and it's an 07 with 45k.

I have an 06 with 73000 and still have the stock battery. I'm going to replace it this winter with an optima possibly but not sure which type what do you all think?

Try a Deka Battery they are just as good as an Optima, but at less cost. The intimidator (aka AGM) is their version of the Optima and are made in the USA.
