Looking at my owners manual Toyota recommends.

    p215/15=33psi
    p245/16=30psi
    p265/16=32psi
    p265/17=29psi
    p255/18=35psi

I don't know if all of these sizes are available on a DCLB but that's a seven pound spread. I guess my question is how do they come up with the recommended psi for each tire?

i also never knew Toyotas came in some of those sizes.

you got me interested now Jon, check your door and see how it compares to the size tire you got on the truck.

Door and manual say 29psi 265/65-17. I replaced with 265/70-17. Stock Dunlap's 51psi max load. Duratracks 50psi max load, so I'd assume they should be about the same but Toyota bumped them up to 34psi last time they serviced it.
This is starting to sound like I'm concerned about fuel mileage... I couldn't give a shit. It is what it is. I just started wondering how they put a number to each tire.

I run my BFG AT 265s at 40psi. Ran 245s at 40psi on my old 4Runner too. They wore perfectly fine. As for max pressure, it's 65. No worries there. Someday, just for kicks, I may do the chalk test. But 40 seems perfectly fine, and I get great mileage - currently at 19.1mpg mixed driving over the last 5000 miles (based on my Ultra Gauge).
