Got a new to me 08 Tacoma SR5 Quad Cab V6 Auto Trans a few months back.
I was told when I bought the truck that the mystery button was something to do with an old alarm...they thought.

Well I got to doing some detective work today and here is what I found.

Button on dash (and my finger)

Fuse block (powered at a 10amp) looks as if something has been done to the bottom left plug also.
    IMAG0430_f5c91ca40a3b5d990bf4a3b1be178cad68faacd9.jpg

Two red wires that run under the driver seat...
    IMAG0429_b9a502d739d9526edfa6917f7004a9cdc267a498.jpg

    Wires under the seat???
    IMAG0428_c511a3fd00d10fcfbeac7cc32bab7e47514a2bf9.jpg

Wired to a relay that has one set of contacts jumped...

    So Ideas???

    Thanks for any input.

my wifes 2010 tacoma has the exact same thing. she bought hers brand new with like 3 miles on it. the dealership she got it from couldnt even tell her what it was. i assume its got to do with an alarm system cuz it blinks when you get out of the truck and lock the doors.

btw the button doesnt push. its just a blank with a light in it.

Ok it has factory heated seats. There may have been at one time an alarm on the truck but I have yet to located anything more then what is pictured here and a hood pin.

And if you push it it will light up one time seems to make no change running or not. 2nd push no light up.

It looks like it may be tied into the seat sensor? Anyways, I'd pull that shitty electrical work out if it were in my truck.

Tacomas do not have an option for heated seats. They are after market.

I would do what the other guys said, rip it out!

    EJECTOR SEAT!!

My best guess would be an aftermarket seat heater. Can you trace the wires any further?

From what I can see they go from the relay to:These buttons for the seat heaters. (for the record I didn't know that Tacoma's didn't come with factory heated seats. This is my first Toyota and am learning) With that being said why the heck would you want it ran to a lighted switch on the dash anyway...?

Hood pin tied to light= light changes when pushed... old alarm system would be my bet.

edit: hmmm hood pin switch to old lights or old alarm?

(btw- center comes off VERY easy, easy to check under to confirm)

    pos. to "seperate" systems?!

Pull that fuse out , remove the wire and pull that out! As long as it's plugged into your fuse it is HOT! It's aftermarket that someone had rigged up.

The heated seats may be a dealer installed option, not factory from Toyota. It also looks like you have leather seats, again not a factory option. That button is probably a shut off for the heated seats. I'll bet the heated seat buttons don't work unless that button is lit right?

It's for an aftermarket alarm system that was removed, no doubt in my mind.

My guess would be...........had an old cheap alarm that quit working and then used some of the wiring to wire up the seat heaters. What did I win?

FYI Toyota factory installed heated seats are an option for the Canadian trucks

Not dealer installed , factory installed

So depending what the last owner was doing, here is what is probably happening here.
The original owner more than likely wired the seats straight to the battery, this in-turn killed his battery one day. So said owner decides to wire the relay control through the ignition circuitry like it should have been done originally. The fuse that it is hooked to is what fuse? That will tell you for sure.

Factory leather is also an option on the Canadian trucks just FYI

It might be a circuit breaker for the heated seats.
