bedlined fender flares

i'm getting ready to do this soon on my base model. is it as simple as scuffing the surface and using some adhesion promoter for my prep work? i dont plan on using primer, just bed line the surface with the adhesion promoter on it.

 

Just out of curiousity, why are you bedlining what I'm assuming to be are the black plastic fender flares? Or are they color matched and you're looking to black them out?

 

I did this on my sport. Easy as pie. Tape them off, you don't want to scuff your paint... Sand your flares, I think I used 120 or something pretty rough. Sand them until all the clear coat is gone. A D/A or equivalent sander will be your best friend with this one. Clean them off with a rag. Then, I rolled on Hurculiner. After your done applying, peel of the tape. Let it dry then go wheelin !! Easy as that.
As long as you sand them down good there is no need for adhesion promoter.

 

they are blacked out currently, but look terrible. plastic is faded, you can see lines all through them. i tried using back to black on them, didnt work. i like this option next.

 

just by looking at your pic in your avatar, yours were painted already right? mine is just the black abs plastic or whatever the base 4x4's come with. thats why i wasnt sure about the painting, since its just bare plastic there isnt an existing paintjob for the new stuff to "bite" into

 

This sounds a little weird but you can get them back to the original black color with a little heat. You have to be careful, but it works!

You will probably only need to do some light sanding. Wipe down the flares, allow to dry, roll on 1st coat, allow to dry 1-2 hours, apply 2nd coat, allow to fully dry and cure and then you're done. I've found that the magic erasers do a good job on the black plastic fender flares as well.
