AC Damper bumping/oscillating in Recirc mode

I posted this in the tech area with no replies, maybe you can help...

I have an 05 Prerunner Dbl Cab TRD Sport. If I start it with the AC in recirc mode, the solenoid that moves the dampers to the recirc mode bumps in the recirc position. I removed the glove box and looked above and to the left of the air filter and can see the white plastic linkage that moves the outside air damper and it is moving slightly against the firewall. If I put slight pressure on the linkage, the solenoid stops the bumping. When I cycle the button, the solenoid strokes smoothly. I put it in Recirc mode and removed the plug from the solenoid because it is anoying when it does this, and I like to have it in recirc most of the time due to the hot weather and the better cooling achieved in the recirc mode.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Is it a bad solenoid or could it be misaligned slightly?

 

In my wife's Pontiac Vibe (a badge engineered Toyota Matrix) the recirc door servo does that. When a servo fails like that it basically means that one or more teeth in the servo gear train are worn down or broken off.

The fix is to replace the servo, or turn up the stereo.

 

thanks for the info. It looks like it won't be too bad to pull out and replace. I was worried because several are really hard to get to up in the dash.

 

Let me know where you find the replacement servo...we've put off fixing the one in the Vibe simply because I didn't know what part number it is.

 

Will do, right now, I have it disconnected so I don't go insane when in recirc mode!

 

It really only bothers you for the first two or three years. After that you hardly notice it.

 

Kind of forgot about this for a while after I disconnected the servo and pushed it closed.

Looks like 87106H is the servo for the recirc per the drawing.

So, after reading all the posts around the forum i opted to go with ordering from Rock Auto. I ordered part number F04007. They promised 2nd day delivery for the part which turned into 2nd week delivery. Had I been in a bind for the part I would have given them the riot act over this. As it turned out, I was going out of town for vacation and was in no hurry for the part.

When I got back and inspected the new part, the shape and size were an exact match. The only differences being the stickers having slightly different numbers on them and the case having WOORY 1 molded in the case instead of Woory 2.
I pulled the old servo out and went about replacing it with the new one. No serious issues here. It is important to note the orientation of the linkage from the recirc damper that the servo attaches that links to a damper further inboard. I ended up pulling this linkage out of the recirc damper hole and it took a few minutes to figure out how it went back in. It turns out there is an indexing ridge that prevents full insertion if it is 180 degrees out. It swings to the bottom and not over the top when inserted correctly.
After getting it assembled correctly, it swings freely and quietly. I have a couple of pics and a video that show a comparison of the servos and the operation after installation.

 

These pics show the orientation 180 degrees out and swinging over the top instead of under the bottom. The servo will not mount correctly as it the white linkage will not fully insert into the air box onto the damper arm.

 

Dam I replaced mine for $4 from a junkyard. Glad it worked out though....Mine clicked really loud and wouldn't stop until I turn it to outside air.

 

This photo show the linkage the best. The bar should be crossing under the round part. Then it will insert onto the damper all the way.

 

I opened the old servo and found the broken tooth at the 11 oclock position on the big white gear.
