    Hey all...anyone had any issues with wiring a spare key to the frame? I do a lot of driving in the backcountry where I absolutely CAN NOT lose my key. And I feel more comfortable with my truck locked up tight. But if I did lose my key, what do you think about wiring my "valet" key to the frame or somewhere else in case I absolutely need to use it. I took the electronic/remote thingies off my key chain as soon as I bought it...hate them. I usually send the thing into panic mode as soon as my keys are in my pocket when I have those things.

    Not looking for specifics so I can steal your vehicle, but you guys ever done this? Wire a spare key in some hard to reach spot?

    I've an aftermarket combination lock box that mounts in the hitch receiver. Maybe that would work for you?

    it sounds like you need this when you're in the middle of no where.... so it's not like youre in a huge city when you need it hidden there.

    With this in mind.. I can't imagine too many people will be trying to steal it

    so it just needs to be kinda hidden.. I think maybe bolting a small U bolt on the frame and then just attatch the key chain to that..... I'm sure there are some other good ways to go about hiding it... be creative

    When I'm at the beach, I have a special loop on my board shorts that a key attatches to... I surf with it and it's fine..

    thanks all...

    @jackrules...I'm not worried about it being stolen. I'm worried about me losing my key and having to hoof it out 30 miles with a backpack to the nearest highway. Which i could do and hitch a ride, but I don't really want to.

    (Sorry...I'm anal...which is why I started this thread in the first place.)

    that hitchsafe is a great idea. i may need to buy one. looks like we need longer locking shafts?

    H james..i do the same thing. park my truck and hike off into the wilderness for a week of hunting. i am anxious about the keys the entire time.

    i typically give a hunting buddy a copy to carry just in case. losing my keys in the wilderness is not an option.

    Put a spare key in your truck and have a plastic key cut and stick that into your wallet.
