Help with TSB leaf springs

I'm looking to get a lift on my truck, and because of that ive been reading alot on here about different lifts but one thing i keep seeing is "tsb leaf springs". im pretty sure that tsb is toyota service bulletin but how do i know if they included it on my truck or not? my dealership is pretty much worthless on this matter. any help would be great

 

No i know that. i just wondering if its aal or what. i dont want any lift out of it
so does it just keep you from bottoming out with something heavy in the bed?

 

4 leafs in each pack instead of 3. Just add an AAL to the rear leafs if over 36k miles & save headache with dealer.....or spend more coin to replace with aftermarket real leaf packs..

 

you will get maybe 1" of lift from them, i did get them and Bilstein 5100s set @.85 up front and it sits like stock, i didnt want more lift. if you are planning on more than an inch lift then go with a new leaf pack in the rear

 

thanks thats what i was wondering. do you guys suggest to get a new leaf pack no matter what if its not with the lift i get?

 

What are you trying to accomplish with your suspension or what do you use the truck for?? You mentioned above you didn't want any lift. I don't think anyone would suggest getting a new leaf pack if you have no issues with your current one.

 

Ran a 1.5 AAL with the 3 leaf crap pack on my 05 for couple of years without issue. 5100s @ 2.5 up front. Hauled 1500lbs a few times and had no sag issues. As was stated, depends on how far you want to go with suspension mods.

 

I tow my two jet skis, i do some light off roading but with the lift im just looking for a higher stance. i dont want a LT because i dont use my truck like that. i was thinking DB like the RCD 4-5" lift

edit: long story short i do want some functonality out of it but im not going to be in the mud everyweekend.

You need to be persistent....Bring in the printed TSB for harsh ride to the dealership. Tell them you tow (utility trailers sometimes). Tell them it bottoms out and if feels unsafe. You are just worried about the load capacity and your safety.

If the dealer refuses...just tell them you need it in writing that they will not fix this very well known problem....Just in case something happens. Ask for the persons name at the dealership not willing to do this "Fix". This implies potential litigation against the dealership and the person making that call if something happens. You have a 2010....I am assuming it is still under warranty.

Then call Toyota Corporate - toll free number -800-331-4331. Tell them the same story and ask if they can call the dealership to approve the fix. Again, mention load capacity and your safety. Ask if the call will be documented (again..implies the possibility for litigation). Then, maybe take it to another dealership - (don't mention the other dealership). They are not linked, so there is no information transferred from dealership to dealership.

If all else fails - I have a set of TSB leaf springs in great condition that I may be willing to let go for the right price. They are bolt on...and I even have 1" blocks - 1.5 with the TSB leaf spring and 2.5 with the leaf spring and block. With 5100's or upgraded coilovers in the front.....Thats a nice set up!

 

I would agree with you with the exception of the Icon or Wheelers 1.5" 3-leaf AAL which is pretty impressive in my opinion. It carries weight well and rides smooth (not the rough ride single AAL's are notorious for).

 

Thats some great info, i guess i misspoke earlier: what i meant by them being worthless is that they send me letters about recalls that dont concern me and then the last time i took my truck in for its 15k tune up on the 1st they told me i had a recall on my gas pedal. i know that tsb's are not recalls but i just feel like its might be a waste of time to get it done if im going to get a lift anyway. BUT...since you brought up the harsh ride subject, eveny when my truck was brand new it felt like the trans would shift really hard during certain driving conditions ie when i would slow down for traffic or a light and not come to a complete stop but get back on the gas (not mashing it) it will rev really high and then shift hard. i have told the dealership about that and they dont have an answer. i have heard that the 4x4 tacomas have that problem but im not sure if i believe that.

 

yeah mines 4wd. how much do you get out of the 5100s 3" max right? i think the 3" is not enough and the 6" inch lifts are too much

 

x2...I got the Wheelers 3-leaf with the stock overload still installed and it rides great.

 

yeah they added something to my gas pedal and said they were adjusting the computer. i thought that would fix it but its still kinda rough and yes its only 1st and 2nd

and i have seen that you dont like DB's in all the stuff i have read on here. and thats another delema if i want higher than 3" or so you have to do DB right?

 

The 5100's are adjustable to 0, .85", 1.75" and 2.5" of lift in the front using your stock coils. With a top plate, you can just about get to 3" of lift. Over that, you're looking at drop brackets or body lifts.

 

Check the Dec. 2010 TSB to see if your truck model is included and what should be replaced. Mine included the shocks and the 4 leaf spring. The height difference is visible and rides much better.
