Fortunately, we camp and wheel with the fuzz most of the time so we know all the rules and regulations before we get there. One of our guys is a Wildland Firefighter

    Good info, thanks for that.

Nice! Now we only go camping to that spot early in the year at which point there are no fire regulations. Later in the season we just stay in NV.

Hopefully I'll be able to get some good camping photos in a couple of weeks when we make our annual trip to Sicily Island

Thanks man! I like the soft topper/rack combo, going to look more into this setup. Looks like an awesome meet btw! Is there a link to that thread?

How quickly does that burn through a propane cylinder? I normally use other methods, but I can see times when something like this might come in damned handy. Since I'm carrying a tank for my shower anyway, I've always got one on hand.

On max mode it puts out 55,000 BTU. Each gallon of propane contains 91,600 according to the American Gas Association. A typical BBQ tank (20 pound tank) holds about 4.1 gallons when full, assuming an 80% fill rate when refilled (which is normal). Therefore, 374,576 total BTU when full. 374,576 BTU / 55,000 BTU = 6.81 Hours on high.

That said, I prefer running it on low or medium, but mostly on low if it's just me and the wife. Once the rocks get hot they radiate heat pretty well and provides a more intimate calm setting. When I have company over and I want to impress then I run it on high. :D.

I love it for many reasons.
    1. Instant on
    2. NO smoke smell in clothing
    3. No burning embers to blow away in the wind and start structure / wild fires
    4. Totally portable.
    5. Instant off, and you can move it immediately, no waiting, just grab the stainless ring and lift.
    6. Propane is relatively cheap and omnipresent.

I recommend reading the reviews on Scamazon. :) There are a number of manufacturers to choose from. And you can go high end and find one that has fire glass as a substrate (more heat I think). I like the Camp Chef brand personally, not too expensive and decent quality. They make 'em in a few different sizes too.

    Anyway, hope that helps.

Awesome, thanks! I've used other Camp Chef products and I like them as well. This looks like the perfect setup so I'll be sniffing around for one of these before next season.

Here's a few more Newfoundlander ones for you with my old Tacoma.
Had 470,000km's when I started from Toronto heading out there and back. Ran like a top.

Does anyone know of a good place in Alabama where I can take mine? I bought my tent back in 04 for my 01 Tacoma. Never used it. Now I want to take my 08 Tacoma out and use it. I've only had the tent on my trucks twice and that was to try it out.
