Wait till these rains back off and hit a beach on the Columbia to get tuned up for spring. In a couple weeks the Spring Chinook will be coming up....throw a line out.

Here are some pictures from summer last year (2011). I am a minimalist and when I do solo trips I don't deploy a lot of gear when I pull over for the night. Jetboil and Mountain House dinners work well for a hot fast meal.

I’m jealous of those pines you have in your sand dunes. Just some sage and junipers in ours in Utah (Little Sahara).

Had to use my truck to transport this:

    To float down this:

So we could camp and fish here:

    and here:

Not exactly camping out of the truck but close...

Yakima river in WA, just east of the cascades.

Great thing is the boat breaks down and fits perfectly in the bed of an Access cab.

Boy I'm jealous of all your guys' awesome truck camping! My GF keeps asking me about it, and i have to shamefully admit that I don't know too much about bug-out style camping. But I want to start up the hobby!

So I have a question: How do you find wild, secluded, safe, but relatively easy to get to campsites? I live in Oregon so I know I'm close to tons of 'em. But I need a place that I am confident I can get to without getting stuck on the way into/out of, is within a three hour drive from the Portland metro area, and is safe and legal. I love camping but unfortunately all my camping experience is either crowded pay camps or boy scout camps. I have a 4wd but it has stock tires and suspension so I cant do anything too crazy. Any advice?

Go to your nearest BLM or National Forest visitor center and start asking. Look at maps to find potential locations then get an aerial view with Google Earth. If it looks decent, take a day trip to the area to scout it out before you haul all sorts of gear in. Once you open camp in the wilderness, you will never go back to a designated camp ground.

man, New Jersey is so soft. we dont have any good spots in the area. Our usual spot is 4 hours away in NY. All boat in camping, so no pics of the Taco with the tents.
