Had an epic weekend trip up to the Mammoth lakes. We camped at the Rock Creek upper site and hiked up to Ruby Lake at 11,000 feet. Finally got to use the camp kitchen I built.

I'm not sure if this link will work, but it's a quick instagram video of the completed kitchen. http://instagram.com/p/hUHbEuK4qt/?modal=true

I built it entirely out of 1/2" birch plywood. Took inspiration from the "Chuck Box" Expedition Portal thread. Fully loaded it weighs about 75 lbs including two cast iron pans, stove, and two liters of propane. I don't have written plans per-se, but back in November I wrote a large post in this thread about the dimensions and construction method.

Was there to have fun, melt stress, and get away from the world... not take pics to show people I don't know on a truck website

Tired of taking pics and posting them and the whole evolution towards "look at me" type threads. When I started here 5-6 years ago there were a few pics thread and now everyone has one of their own....even you. Seems everyone is turning into a professional guide and photog on here. See more and more people going to extremes to take cool pics... who cares? Point is to get away and have fun not bring back the wilderness to others who are glued to a computer. Now if taking pics is your form of fun have at it and I understand that....it's just getting old or maybe I am :notsure: I just lost all care is showing others how 'cool' I am.

Didn't you notice the lack of a build thread and lack of pics from recent trips. I think I outgrew the need for a ego stroke. Now don't get me wrong if I see a Squatch or unicorn Ill take a pic and post it :D

Well, that's awfully negative... I'm no professional photog or guide, but am passionate enough about it to hump 25 pounds of gear up to 11,000 feet to snap a few landscape photos. Not only do I enjoy the artistic aspect of photography, but documenting my travels so I can enjoy the memories later has been something I've been doing for decades.

I would say this thread is much less about ego stroking than about sharing ideas and experiences with likeminded individuals. My camp kitchen in particular, which was both a joy to make with my own hands and use with my friends, would never have been built were it not for threads like this.

hmm, this is a truck camping.....photo.....thread. Just want to throw that little bit of information out there. If you have just one or two pics, no biggie. Just don't go flaming all over the place because others like to see more pics. The idea is to show other members other parts of the country/world that people have the chance to camp in. I come here to see other areas that I can't reach at this time, not to help boost other people egos or my own.

Anyway, me and the lady are heading out to Linville Gorge next weekend for some hiking. Pretty excited and ready myself.

Well, made it up to the Allegheny National Forest last weekend with my girlfriend and dog, to do some dispersed camping off a random forestry road.

We found this new spot just driving around and it is really sweet; Has a drinking water spring and a native trout stream both only a few miles away that we marked on GPS. Only saw 2 other vehicles drive by all day on Saturday.

Had an awesome time and didn't get to many pics, but here are some:

Forest road we drove in on:

Got some rain, so strung up a tarp and backed the Tacoma in under it:

Fire and tent after getting set up:

Tried out this new Cabela's Alaskan Guide Tent, it's rated for 4 seasons. Definitely the best dome tent I've ever experianced. Material is thick and rugged, poles are oversized, 3x as many tie downs as I needed, probably be good to go in 50+mph winds if you used them all. The vestibule over the door keeps rain out of the tent when your going in and out, and no stakes or cords directly out in front of the front door. I'd rate this thing 5 stars and recomend it to anyone looking for a good 4 season car camping tent. It's heavy so no packing it in anywhere.

Also tried out a new french press for making coffee. First time using one and worked like a champ. Much better than a percolator in my opinion, was very smooth and didn't burn the coffee. Used the outlet in the bed to grind up some fresh mac nut flavored Kona beans.

I think after the rain started, our beagle would have rather been at home curled up on the warm couch. She had a great time chasing hare off leash though.

This is a Tacoma forum so one more pic. My favorite Tacoma color Dirt Blue Metallic. :D

Keep the pics coming everyone! This is my first post in this thread. I love looking at other peoples camping pics. I like the ideas they provide, like the home made camp kitchen above, and reviews some people give on new gear.

if you don't like picture threads why do you post in them? and its got nothing to do with ego, we just enjoy sharing a few pictures of our latest adventures to inspire everyone else to get out and explore.

Yea, I enjoy all of the photos, too! They give me ideas for my own set up, and the hope that I'll be able to go camping again. Just covered up with with work (this is my busy time of the year). Thank you to all that enjoy sharing. Sorry I don't have any photos right now. I'll posts some when I go camping.
