cotton is bad for camping clothing - wicks up moisture and is slow to dry. probably why your pillow felt cold. try finding something with synthetic fibers and i bet it will be warmer.

Yeah I agree. Only thing I had that was cotton was the pillow case. Im looking for a used RTT so I can stretch out and be comfortable and not sleep on 2 inflatable sleeping pads

Sounds awesome! Hrm, maybe I should plan a trip up there before it gets too cold, bring the telescope and just relax for a weekend. Hrm.....

Of course I'd have to find the secret spot. :p

i thought it was you who posted pics camped outside of grand teton before? was it someone else?

and not sure what your idea of "too cold" is but its in the 20's at night. almost too cold to even sit at the campfire...i went to bed early just because i couldn't stay warm at the fire and knew i'd be better off in my bag

Nothing like the swish of snow pants to break the silence of camping!! Haha. Though in reality if it's that cold I might call it a season.

I posted pics on Gravelly Range Rd.

guess it was somebody else, my bad. the cold can't be good for the scope either - i know its not good for the camera lenses if you get moisture inside on the elements.

yup...still trying to convince my dad of this  the man goes fishing in jeans all the time.

No silk socks, huh? You may need to magnetize a needle for a field expedient compass today.

The viewing is actually better when it's cold, it tends to stabilize the atmosphere a bit. The scope I have should be ok in the cold, the eyepieces might be a bit sensitive though.

If you are camping/backpacking/hiking, cotton is bad IF it gets cold.

    Sweat/rain+cottton+cold=death

but you have your swaybar on, so you will be ok

    That would be "some situations..."

Cotton is great in heat, as it is an excellent material in regards to moisture wicking and evaporative cooling.
There are synthetics that dry faster and cool just as well or better, but "cotton kills" is only partially true. In cold and freezing temperatures, any wet material can give you grave issues. Wool is the only material I would use if my clothing choice in cold weather was adding or subtracting risk of hypothermia.
Nothing inherently wrong with cotton. Just not appropriate for all situations. Synthetics aren't either.

Yes I was agreeing with you, not all internet comments are confrontational, despite what butthead says.
