I like it. That design is catching on.

I built mine a couple of months ago. When the tire is down, I slide the second bar up against it to hold the carrier in the down position.

I like the way you're bolting the tire to the carrier. I originally made a wedge shaped screw that I would screw in place. Figured out pretty quickly that would tear up the wheel. So I made a plate that falls into place in the wheel and is held down by a T handle, screwed in place. That is working well, but I like your bolting it down idea a lot. More secure, especially against theft.

    Thanks!

I got 'em at Northern Tool. I'm gonna use them for the lid on my M416 when I get around to building it. I'll see if i can find a link to them. Im on my phone and it just goes to their mobile site.

Thanks, just 2 bolts on the hinges and it's completey out.

The bolts are holding the air tank. I put in D-rings in the front corners and I have it ratchet strapped down. Since it's so heavy it may be enough to hold it down. If not I'll use some turnbuckles. Next week is vacation and we are wheelin/camping for 4 days so I'll see how well it works.

Thanks Pope! It was fun to do.
I seen your thread when you built it and commented that I was gonna build a similar one soon, just took me longer than I expected! I've been building this in my head for 5 months or so, and it's changed a lot! When i seen yours I realized I was way over thinking it! How is yours holding up? Thinking of changing anything other than the mount it self?

Dooo iiittttt!!! :D If you want some measurments I'll gladly share.

Mine's holding up great man. I don't even tie it down in the bed and it stays down, especially with the second bar pushing on it.

An update to this also, it was rubbing into the bed at the corners of the frame. The ratchet strap holds it down just fine but I think it vibrates just enough to cause it. I used some tubing that I had to stop it. It sure ain't pretty but it works! If we had a bed mat it wouldn't be an issue so I guess that's on the list of things to get now!

Hey man love this design. Hate to be a follower but...I think I may be copying it. I love the look and hate the idea of trying to get my tire from underneath the bed in the snow at some point. Are you still willing to share the measurements with folks?? I have a buddy who welds abs has been looking for a project.

    Thanks!!!

I used this hinge http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...6307_200306307 and I got 20' of 1"x1"x1/8" tubing, around 6' of 1 1/2" angle and various nuts and bolts. The box is 24 1/4" by 30 1/2" and the top of the T is 5 1/2". I don't have the wheel sitting on the T, the bolts are squeezing the tire to the frame. For the rubber bushings holding the tire on I used a bump stop out of an old shock I had laying around. Your size may be different if your wheels are bigger or a different offset. I took the back rail off and replaced it with the angle.

Nice job on the tire carrier! I maybe copying also is I can't come up with the cash for a CBI rear bumper/carrier. Hey you mentioned you are building a M416. Mine is currently torn completely down and I need to get everything to the sandblaster. Need some parts though. Have you researched any parts suppliers for your trailer?

I have but it's been a long time ago. I've had it for a few years and all I've done to it is get a standing leg for it. I used it a lot when I had my Jeep but since the wife got the truck I haven't used it at all. So i decided a couple months ago to build it into an EXPO trailer. Probably gonna start on it this winter.

Its for everyone having different and changing tire sizes, if they made a vertical it would have to be a different heght for each size, or buy a new one everytime you got different tires, or if they made it adjustable it would'nt be as stable as it got higher :)

a angled one supports more sizes
