Beep Sound When Hitting Bumps?

It is very faint , I can only hear it if my radio is off .

 

Keep it under 40 MPH , I think that is the magic number .

Above that the VSC will engage .

 

I have tested the limits of the VSC in my truck. I'm going to hazard a guess and say that there may be a difference between the USA trucks and the trucks sold in Canada. There is no audible warning for VSC in my truck, it either engages or does not. And when it engages it beeps like crazy and reduces throttle and brakes wheels and what not.

To the OP and for people who's VSC engages too often, you either need to slow the F down around those curves, and/or have your VSC recalibrated. Sometimes it's not the drivers fault though, a rough patch of asphalt or a pothole can set the system off too.

If you modify the geometry of your suspension so that an alignment is required, and an adjustment made, then you should have your VSC recalibrated. Search the forums there is a procedure on how to do this yourself.

My guess is that the rural roads had some ripples in it? I have noticed that too when driving straight and hitting a rough patch of road will trigger the system. It's annoying as hell, but I understand why its there.

I've also heard a strange beep tone while driving straight on a gravel road doing around 30 mph. I know what the VSC sounds like...this was definatly not it. This only happened once in the hundreds of miles of dirt roads I've been on since owning the truck. All I can really compare it to to is the sound or tone you might hear when a elevator reaches your floor.

Very interesting! Okay so then there is something else... The only other traction system that would interfere is TRAC, but I don't recall it making any beeps or tones. Just a massive throttle reduction but I've only seen it engage from a starting position. I have some videos of TRAC and LSD engaging.

You sure it is a beep and not a squeak? My truck has made a slight squeak when hitting such bumps that sounded like an awful lot like a beep.

 

Here is a video showing TRAC and then LSD. Note that activating LSD mode only removes the throttle limiting component of the TRAC feature. I was doing this test in a sandy wash while in 2WD. No auditory beeps from the dash!

Okay. I just reread some technical notes from Toyota. The buzzer (which beeps) that we are all familiar with only operates during VSC Activation or During Actuator Protection (Brakes overheating). That's it. All other systems use lights to notify the operator however, there is something which does produce an intermittent sound which I managed to capture on video a few posts ago. Here is a chart which shows the various systems and when they make sounds and produce warning lights.

 

Ya , I don't think it's intended as an audible clue for the driver as it is too faint , but something makes a tone under certain (in my case repeatable ) conditions

 

The tone sound I heard wasn't faint but it did seem like it came from under the dash. Also, I didn't notice any dash lights like when VSC kicks in. Very strange... it's only happened once in the 4 years I've had the truck.
