I'm kinda stuck between spending my hard earned and hard come by cash on either a Bestop or an M101 for the Taco. Thoughts anyone?

It'd be nice to have a covered bed, but extra space to throw crap in would be nice too. The down side is the trailer would take up space when I'm not using it.

    Decisions decisions.

To me, they serve totally different purposes. I have an M101CDN2 but I will use it mostly behind my Jeep. I'm in the process of building it now; I have a rooftop tent to install after I can get a lid made for the trailer.

You're right, if you don't have the space for a trailer it will be a GIANT pain in the butt.

So, it depends on what you plam to do with the Bestop or the trailer.

I say go with the trailer. You could easily sell it later if you change your mind. It looks awsome

trailer is more versatile imo. Plus can carry more payload than your bed. and its easier to sell

Be careful, the US M101 is a HUGE trailer; 3/4 ton. I believe they were meant to be pulled behind the 2.5 ton (deuce and a half) 6x6 truck. The one in the OP photo is an M101CDN2, a Canadian 1/2 ton trailer similar to the US M416.

You can find some really good info at ih8mud.com, expeditionportal.com and other similar sites.

from what I looked at the m101 only weighed 1200 pounds.

I am guessing if the trailer is modded and built into a sleeper or something no more than 1000 will be added. A take any where 2500 pound all terrain trailer would be sick!

Yes, but the M101CDN2 and M416 are about 775 empty. You might also check the track width of the M101, I'm pretty sure it's a bit wider than the 60" of the M101CDN2.

I'm not saying that it wouldn't be a cool trailer, it's just not like the one in the OP.
