I got that tar sound deadoning coating put on the bottom of my truck, whisper silent at 140. I love it, but it probably added an extra 8-10 pounds to the truck

there was a plastic piece broken during transit, so I've gotta build a new piece, URD doesn't have a repacement because the MK1's are discontinued, so I'm having a local shop build me the 10$ connection piece.

Progress so far: Replaced old supercharger filter with new filter, and pulled old chip out of my truck, wiped clean some pieces outta boredum

I just removed my Bestop soft top today and doing a 250+ mile trip my MPG went from 13.5 before at 75 mph to 21mpg driving a route I have driven several times before the same way I always do. Thats a round trip from phoenix to Tucson. I couldnt believe it, apparently my Bestop is acting like a giant wind damn. I knew it would cause some drag but that is crazy. So from now on the Bestop either stays removed or folded down unless needed.

Is the built-in meter less accurate than a scangauge? I find my scangauge average fuel economy for a tank to be within a few tenths of what I calculate.

Just wanted to make sure you didn't believe it. I got 21 on my last tank in my 4runner before I lifted it

OP here is why you're getting bad replys. Lets say you under driver your pulleys, headers, full undercarriage pan, and managed to recalibrate your ecu. You'll gain about one mpg from all these mods and be in the hole about 5 thousand dollars. Driving your 114 miles a day, 5 days a week your 1 mpg will save you $297.44 in gas annually at 4 bucks a gallon. This means it will take you 16.81 YEARS before you see a return on your investment.

The electric fan may help you, but the ram won't as you have a charger which is compressing air into the cylinder already. You're at the point now where the only cheap and realistic mod is shedding weight by removing unneeded items like tailgate, spare tire, passenger seat, etc.

No more mud flaps, Temp gauge inside intake box, BHLM, extra D-rings in front of bed, No more plastic storage box behind rear seats. More to come.
I am actually working on several of these. Im in a '06 TRD Sport crew cab long bed.. I'm shaving weight, and halfway done with a fabric grill block and have a plan for a partial underbelly. I'd like to hear more..

Dude, I am in total agreement with you. Let me know how the air splitter/ air dam goes. I'm wanting the Flex-A-Lite E Fan and some light weight pulley components, but budget is a road block. Keep up the creativity and aim for 25mpg. Its possible.

I know right. I will be leaving it off over the next week or two and then putting it back on just to prove it is in fact my Bestop. I have not changed my driving habits at all. I will be filling up tomorrow morning and I think my latest tank will be around 400 miles on 19 gallons. Thats the most I have ever gotten by a long shot. Even with my 05 AC I had before I never got that milage.

I didn't think the Bestop stuck up above the cab very much, so I never thought aerodynamics would be an issue. I figured you'd be better off with that instead of a standard fiberglass cap which would weigh a whole lot more.

CIMG1431.jpg This is an image of somebody else trying the air dam idea. They say they gained 3 to 5 MPG's with this.

[IMG] hey guys, its been a while. So my thoughts were basic and used theory of fresh clean cold air for an intake. Stock the air is pulled from the front right fender well. So I just put a staright 4" tube from air filter to the grill (shown in picture) Im in colorado so the air is thinner, but to my surprise I lost MPG's by doing this. does anybody know why? I was thyknking maybe because the fuel injection. the clean, fresh and cold air only help the carburator set up? other ideas?

Good point in bold. Best mod you can do is drive like a little old lady. Shedding weight works but losing your tailgate can actually hurt your mileage. With the tailgate up, it creates a dead space and actually helps air flow, with the tailgate down it acts like a spoiler and creates downforce on the rear end of the truck. Tires play a big factor also. You want light, skinny, non-aggressive tires for the best MPG and mess with the height until you find what works. I went up a size and actually do better on the highway vs. stock.

I can't see your pic, it didn't upload or its not showing for me but the stock intake is a cold air intake. It takes cold, fresh air from the fender well. Even with a $400 cold air intake, you will not see any MPG gains, only more noise and maybe slightly better throttle response.
