has anyone had any problems with the holes they drilled in their ammo cans leaking? if i did it i think i'd just put some epoxy or silicon on the inside just for good measure, not sure if its necessary though

There is a big gun show in Va this weekend I think. Local army surplus stores are good for the cans as well. Most dont care what they are sold for.

I bought a set of rubber washers for the install. so far I have washed the truck and its been in a few rain storms and no leaks.

three coats damn... I have one coat on mine and they seem like thats enough.

due to the fact that they are probably sometime sprayed with a carc paint. I just wipe tham down with a alcohol rag, throw some self etching primer on them ansd once primer is dry, I use the rustoleum rattle can. Seems to hold up pretty well.

I love this idea. I'm planning on doing this. Is there anyway someone could steal the whole thing? Like couldn't someone just slide it off the rail? I wouldn't want someone to steal it.

As long as you have it bolted down tight, trust me when I say it's not going anywhere!

I haven't seen any sizes for hardware that anyone has used so when I did mine I just kinda flew by the seat of my pants, lol. Here is my parts list if anyone is interested.

    6- 5/16"x1" Carriage bolts
6- 3/8"x1 1/2" Washers (Had to use these cuz the square part of the bolt was too big for 5/16" washer opening.)
    6- 5/16" Nuts
    12- 5/16" Bonded Sealing Washers
    J-B Weld :D

Cut the 1 1/2" washers to aprox. 1" wide, J-B Welded the bolts to the washers. Slid bolts into rail, used tape on the bonded washer to hold it in place over the drilled holes on outside of ammo can. Put ammo can on bolts, put bonded sealing washer on inside of can as well and then tightened the nut. I can get more pics later if anyone wants em, just dark right now.

Just a tip to all those with the ammo can mod. If your like me, and have the ammo cans mounted near the cab/back window, you probably hit the body or back window moulding, when you open the lid. I found that its a good idea to go to Auto Zone and buy some EPDM weather stripping like this, and put a strip across the top of the lid closest to the latch. That way you have some padding when it's opened, and won't scratch the window, body or molding. Here are a couple pics (FYI I have since removed the larger ammo can in the middle, underneath the slide open window.) Also, you can see in the 1st pic, I cut the handles off the lid of the ammo cans because they rattled too much, and theres no need for them anymore with this mod.
