TRD CAI ????

After reading many post weather these are worth it or not I found a brand new old style TRD CAI fairly cheep. But I have a couple of questions.
1: Can I install it myself and not void the warranty?
2: Do I have to remap at all?
3: Is it worth installing or should I just try and resell it.

I have the TRD exhaust installed already and plan on within the next year of installing a SC (can I use the CAI with the SC)?

that looks like a good one, as long as it fits in the stock location and the air box is sealed off from the engine bay , you are good to go. i think that one pulls air from the same spot as the stock intake, which has been proven to be the best spot on out trucks. it should be ok with a SC

 

The TRD CAI does draw air from the fender well, like the stock system, it uses the existing hole there.

As far as if it will boost performance any when coupled with the TRD catback, most will probably say that it will only be a small boost, if any.

One drawback seems to be that you are strongly advised to avoid crossing deep water with a CAI installed.



Having the TRD catback myself but not any CAI yet, I am curious as to how this would change the vehicle's sound.

I'm also curious as to if there is any difficulty in the install or not.

 

It's easy to install on your own with basic hand tools. If you decide not to keep it, it'll sell very quickly here for decent money.

 

The only difference between this intake and our stock, this one allows a cone type filter, which has a greater filter surface so it will allow more air into the intake duct.

I have both, I like the sound definite change from stock but not overbearing

 

I have an old style just like that in my 05 and even came up with a way to hook up my snorkel totally sealed. It does give much more of a growl at lest i noticed it with my JBA cat back exhaust.

Is it louder in terms of intake noise, or louder from the exhaust opening?

 

Same intake location as stock. Do our stock intakes strongly advise this?

 

No experience with the water crossing issue but as i see it, the stock intake is a single tube that would appear to channel water directly into the engine if water were to enter it. The TRD CAI on the other hand, dumps air into the filter box, which seems water would drop into and have a chance to bypass being drawn into the engine. Again, no real world experience with this, just speculating.

I have both the trd Cai and catback on my truck and I love it. I can honestly say it does make a difference. I test drove a 2011 trd tx pro which only has the trd catback exhaust and it felt less peppy. My truck definitely feels like it has more throttle response. Op, try it out and see if you like it. Also I installed mine myself it was really easy.

 

I've heard the CAI can't be used with the supercharger? True?.... can anyone with the TRD supercharger chime in?

 

No problems using the CAI w/ supercharger, but the supercharger is only warranted with the OEM airbox.

 

With all of my mods, I don't worry about warranty.

 

Nice!! I am much more a mud and dirt color guy but nice... I installed the CAI today and just what I thought, not a noticable ammount of HP but better responce in the mid to high range. Can't wait to see what a SC will do. BTW it was a little more of a pain in the butt to install then the one I did on my Jeep but not bad.
I called the dealer this morning and they said that it would be covered under warranty as long as I did it right (what ever that means. LOL). I have a buddy with connections to Toyota so it will be interesting to see what I can get the SC for and what he can help me do with tunning.
