axle wrap is when the springs flatten out and let the axle roll back and forth...like they're wrapping in the springs. an aal helps because it gives the leaf springs curve again and therefor keeping the axle from "wrapping" back and forth with flat ones. hope this helps

Thanks for the additional information. But when you say "the aal gives the springs curve again" it almost sounds like this is a condition related to wear and would occur on older vehicles. My truck is brand new and it's still occurring. Did I misunderstand?

No, I haven't. I've read some posts citing a TSB for the rear suspension, but I didn't know that it was for every vehicle. I just picked up my truck in February. How do I approach the dealer on this?

I'm not sure about anything at the moment. I wouldn't think that gas sloshing around in the tank would do what I'm experiencing. It almost feels as though someone has tapped me after I've come to stop. It doesn't do it all the time either. I guess I'm going to have to pay much closer attention to it and write down the conditions when it does happen again.

    Automatic?

It's normal...and often called the 'lurch' (search for it).

After you come to a stop, the theory is (atleast from what I can see) is the transmission is downshifting into 1st gear. If you thought the tacoma does it...you should drive my MIL Grand Cherokee, that thing is a really hard jerk to it.

    YESSSsssssssss! Exactly!!!

And after further driving research, that's exactly how I'd describe it! And this a.m. I was stopped and it also appeared that the truck was cycling between 500 and 750 RPMs which also made it feel like it wanted to move forward on its own.

I'm coming from a Jeep Wrangler with a standard transmission and all of my other automatic transmissioned vehicles never did anything like it.

    Thanks.

Mine does this too, but I think this is a different issue then the noise we've been hearing. When I come to a stop, I can sometimes hear this 'thumping' noise from the back, almost like someone hit me, but no one did.

But the transmission also 'lurches' a bit forward when I come to a stop.

Two different issues here I believe.

It seems like almost all of the FJ Cruisers(which share the same drivetrain) have this thump (or lurch). The consensus on the FJ forum is that the slip yokes in the driveshaft bind up and then release after stopping. Greasing the slip yokes should take care of it.

I believe the thump is your drive shaft unloading. I'm betting that EVERY complaint here is comming from tacos with auto trannys. With manual you have to push in the clutch when stopping and that does not allow the drive line to wind/bind up. You will notice that if you shift into neutal while coming to a stop you will never get a thump. I wouldn't say that the springs don't get wound up also when coming to a stop...but if it was only the springs then you would expect to get the thump even when braking with tranny in neutral. I have come to a stop when I just know I'm goin to get a thump as soon as I let off of the brakes...but instead of letting off of the brakes, I shift int neutral...THUMP....and you can watch the whole floor shift move foreward.......I don't know maybe just grease the daylight out of the driveshaft splines??!!
