Do 2011 6 speeds still suck?

I am about to buy a 2012 Tacoma and debating between the auto or the 6 speed. I know about the tsb for 05-10's for the clutch disc coming apart and the one for the slave cylinder, throwout bearing and shift fork, but has anyone with a 2011 experienced issues?

Please do not reply unless it pertains to a 2011 having the issue

 

I love my 6 speed. Never liked automatics. Must be a control issue I have. No problem with mine now for over 7000 miles but it's still new.

I Have a love / hate relationship with mine. It's better than having an automatic though. I can live with the occasional cricket family living under my truck. I'm not sure much has changed in the new models?

 

10k miles. No problems. I have a squeeking noise when it is warm outside, but it is the same noise that I had with my '97 Tacoma.

Bought my 05 6 speed new and have 53k miles on it. I like being able to coast down grades and get a consistent 19-20 MPG in town. Shifter sometimes rattles and had the squeaky clutch TSB but otherwise been great truck.

 

Toyota says you get 2mpg worse in the city and on the highway with the 6 speed. I also see the 6 speed has a lower 6th gear ratio than the 5spd auto so cruising rpm on the highway would be a bit higher with the 6 speed. What are your guys real world fuel economy on 6 speed double cabs?

 

I have 97k miles on my 6spd now. The only complaints I have is the crickets and 6th gear is a bit too short for optimum mpg highway driving. I love having a manual transmission. I hate driving automatics. I think I too have control issues

 

I get about 16mpg on average w/ 2.5" lift and 285's, so I guess if you do the math I'm actually getting 17mpg. My speedo is about 6% off according to the tire calculators. My driving is a mix of backroads (~50-55mph) and highway. Plus I drive fast on the highway 75-80mph. I'm sure if I slowed down I would get better mpg but it doesn't really matter that much to me. I don't drive like a granny either. I hate being "That guy" accelerating super slow from traffic lights holding up all the traffic behind me so I typically just drive with the speed of traffic.

 

I have a '11 six speed access cab with the tow package...gearing is fantastic for the terrain I drive. After 10k miles, no mechanical issues. NONE

 

If I'm driving in the city in heavy traffic, I could take it or leave it because you're always shifting and sometimes it's nice to just cruise. Anytime else, I really like having it, especially when towing. As soon as the weather turns bad (lots of snow or heavy rain), I freakin' love it.

I have a 2007 with no issues and super smooth shifting when you get used to the high engagement point and short travel. It's easy to be clunky with these but when you get your technique right, they can be really smooth.

 

I have 07 DCSB with 6spd and after adjusting my driving style a bit I get 18+mpg city driving in summer, and around 22mpg on hwy. Last winter it was much worse (14-16mpg city) but it gets to -20F or less here sometimes with lots of snow and idling. I'm hoping I will do better this year. nothing like having to push extra pedals and move levers all around to simply drive a car in 2011...

 

I like being involved in driving my car, and I don't care if its 2030. That said, I don't have anything against autos, and there are certain times I wish I have one.

 

And all this time California thought it was the toys to blame. Break..Break Cali bans auto transmission sales.

Over 60k miles on mine, no issues.

As others have said, only complaint is that 6th isn't geared tall enough for freeway cruising.
