Congrats on your installation. I finally went through the entire thread on Toyotanation. It seems to work ok for most up through '08 but a few are finding not enough wires to the stalk and have to route new ones from the power unit behind the glove box which is far from Plug and Play.

Nobody has yet posted about doing the mod on an "09.

One concern I have is voiding the warranty. I have the Toyota 7/75k warranty and I am concerned about that if I dukie something.

I got my first 4x4 in 1972...haven't been without one! I still like Chrome!
    Hi Rick,
I added the factory cruise as the ToyotaNation post shows and it worked great. My truck had 12 miles on it when I did it. One thing I did was to buy the Stalk at a junk yard, it cost me $6. the clutch switch and the wire are all i bought new.
Where in KY are you, I am in far west KY.

Thanks for the info Bill. I am in Frankfort.

One thing I noticed is that yours is an '08. It would be nice to see a successful install from someone with an '09.

A recent post on Toyotanation suggests it won't work on the '09. But then many dealers said it wouldn't work on the '05-08's. I guess someone will have to try it to see. Anybody want to go first? :)

Well I recently had the OEM cruise installed and it works great. I have read in other threads that the '09's vary from no prewiring for cruise to full prewiring like the earlier ones. I lucked out and was completely prewired and only need the stalk. The cruise works super and I am one happy camper. :)

I am 73 now and I don't want to get into installing it myself. Is it hard to find someone to install and after market cruise control?

I found a place that did a lot of aftermarket stuff including cruise controls. They charged me for the kit plus $80 labor which I was very pleased with. They used the Rostra kit which looks just like the OEM version. It is an OEM type unit that hardwires in just like the Toyota one, not the RF universal that Rostra also makes. The kit included the stalk and wiring harness back to the ECU (if needed). Fortunately my '09 was prewired like most of the '05 - '08's and all they had to do was to install the stalk. They had it done in 20 minutes. It really works sweet.

You might want to contact Rostra and see if they have any companies that purchase their products in your area. I just did a Yahoo search in the yellow pages for "cruise control." Good luck.

I think it's the same system that's in the corolla? I added one to my corolla for about $50. It's the EXACT same one from the factory... minor mod with a dremel tool, plug it in, you're good to go.

Quite a bit of disassembly, but it does say it will fit an 09 automatic and looks like it includes wiring harnesses. I have yet to take my dash apart so I can't comment on how difficult that will be.

I'm waiting to see if any Ext Cab 2009 2.7L Base Taco's have this done. My Pop's Taco is non SR5 and we would like to add the factory cruise control to it.

I did it on my '09 base Access 2.7. Everything was there and it only needed the stalk. But others have not had the same luck. There are some big installation threads here and on Toyotanation than can provide more info.

I installed one on my 08 reg cab sr5 a couple of months ago. I just took the airbag off and bolted the stalk down. I plugged up the wires. I had to put the clutch switch on also. That was a bitch. I threw all of the other crap and tossed it in the trash. Mine works perfectly.

You need to dig back into the big installation thread. There are some wiring diagrams that show the pinouts used in the ECM that you can see after removing the glove box. If your ECM has the pinouts with plugs in them you might be good to go with only the stalk.

Good boy, I know your dad will really appreciate it. I have the '09 basic access and have done the DRL, Cruise, Wipers and just added the backup mirror. It is the perfect truck for me. The only thing I miss is remote side mirrors and remote access.

NEWF I installed mine, and it did not have the power running from the ECU to the steering column, there is a site from the toyota nation thread that sells the necessary stuff, easy as pie, just running the wire from the ECU across the dash and up to the column is a bitch, but if I can do it...anyone can...

But first thing is just go get the stalk and the wire you need, do the 10 minute install, and if you dont get cruise to work, return the items for cash from the dealer(which is were you would get it from so you can return it) and check that link out from TN and get the additional wiring needed to run power.
