I built this a couple months back, use it for my 12' kayak. Uprights and crossbars are 1 1/4" angle iron, angled supports are 1 1/2" flat bar

I see its mounted to the rail any problems with flexing. How tall are the upright legs.

No problems with any flex at all. Not sure on the height, but I wanna say I measured 5 inches above the roof from the rail. I can get a measurement tomorrow when its light if you'd like

Here is my rack bought it off a Guy who made it it secured by 4 bolts going through the bed cleats I can post better pics of it later and its a solid rack I drive long distances at 75 MPH no problem

Below was my solution. All sections are removable ie A-frames can be removed leaving the sides on or easily taken down to a flat bed.
