2003 Dodge Ram Or 2005 Tacoma

Hi all. Happy to become a member of your forum. I haven't yet purchased a Tacoma but am looking to purchase in the near future. I do have question. I currently own a 2003 dodge ram single cab with the hemi engine. I am looking at trading it for 2005 or so Tacoma double cab. My ram has about 66700 miles and the tacoma has about 98500 miles. I have no need for a newer model as I own a 2009 corvette and my wife has a 2008 infiniti M35. What do you guys think?

My truck looks very similar to the ram express . As for what I would like to use it for. It would mostly get used for driving to work and the occasional family trip. My wife's car is the only family vehicle we have and is used extensively as the travel vehicle. I would like to get the tacoma and alleviate some of the burden placed on her automobile.

 

How reliable are tacoma pickups? 98000 miles is a lot, can this truck holdup to maybe 200,000 miles?

 

I plan on keeping my Tacoma until at least 300,000 miles.

 

With the proper maintenance most definitely. I put 198,000 on my first gen Tacoma, it still ran great when I traded it in.

 

do like the hemi engine and surely you will mss it if you switch for the 4.0l. I miss my aspen but i love my tacoma as well. Its up to you.

 

It *SHOULD* easily surpass 200k. But 98k is also plenty of time for the previous owner to neglect it and cause premature failure. As long as you have a certified/ trusted mechanic take a look at it, I'd say go for it. (Depending on the price of course.)

 

I bought my first Tacoma with 217k and it died at 360k

 

Actually "hemi" does mean something.
Get your facts straight

A Hemi engine (from hemisphere) is an internal combustion engine in which the roof of each cylinder's combustion chambers is of hemispherical form.

if u take care of it will last to 300. i traded in my 02 taco with 144k and dealer gave me 6500 for so they also hold thr value

 

As a mechanical engineer who has done DOE funded engine research and now works for a leading diesel engine company, I've done my research, thank you. Hemis haven't been around for 25+ years because new combution chamber designs have been created that make more power and create lower harmful emissions.

Where did you do your research?

my 3.4L is technically a hemi.

and to the OP, 98k is nothing for these trucks IF they are taken care of. In all reality, 98k isnt much in any vehicle if it was taken care of.
