can anybody help? i just leveled my 09 tacoma and was interested in the XD Hoss 16" but the tire guy says that the 0 offset wont work. i'm going with BFG AT ko in a 285/75 r16. would spacers help with the clearance if so what kind and how big of a spacer should i go?

According to 4-wheel parts, the XD Hoss in a 16x8 rim with 0 offset has 4.5" of backspacing, which is recommended by most people on this site. I don't know if this is one of the wheels that will not fit on the 2nd gens due to brake calipers. KPT will probably chime in here pretty soon.

the guy that installed my level kit did mention shaving of the calipers for all aftermarket rims.. he also recommended that i look for at least a -12 offset. ive found this offset pretty limited with 16"

Now that we know you have a 6 lug tacoma, then the link I provided should answer your question. The wheels will fit.

do you think he's recommending a negative offset to clear the TIRES?

The 17x9 you would want a -12 offset. The appropriate backspacing and offset changes with the width of the wheel. 4.5" seems to be the concensus for our vehicles, especially with 285 tires.

Yes, you will have rubbing issues with the 285 size tires. There are a plethora of threads about rubbing with 285's and the solution for it. Use the search function to find those threads, it will be good practice.
